Happened more than once to an Aggie recruit. It has been well documented how Ketch manipulated rankings. If tu offered or the kid committed, immediate bump. Committed to Texas A&M and they would drop. It's shocking and glaring, but he has all the power. He even deleted his criticism of Luke Joeckel(every Aggie commit had a caveat to their ability) leading up to the NFL Draft... 4 years after the fact.

This.

Dr. Loftin "retiring" reeks of political cronyism. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies.

I tend to agree, but I could very likely see him fitting in to the Chancellor role

As could I. And I think it'll eventually happen.

I am truly surprised by this, didn't see it coming.

Loftin is a great hire for Mizzou. You will absolutely love having him. Guy loves spending time with students and goes to all the sporting events. He's a great Twitter follow @aggieprez. He's just a very positive guy.

Without him we almost certainly didn't make the SEC move. He's a cool customer who knows how to play politics and look 3 steps ahead on the chess board. Can't even begin to describe what kind of crap he was able to weave through during our B12 to SEC move.

The thing is he is constantly underestimated. He comes across as this goofy, kind of nerdy prof who wears a Bowtie but the dude is a freaking badass. He's a great story as well. He was the President at A&M Galveston, our small auxilliary campus on the coast. When Rita hit it basically wiped out the school. He did such a great job in handling everything when A&M fired Elsa Murano they brought him in as an Interim President at the Main Campus. Got thrown in to Conference Realignment almost right off the bat for Round 1 and did such a good job he got the job full time.

Congrats.

Don't know the whole scoop on why he left, just shocked. He is

I guess we won't be moving on to the B1G anytime soon with this hire.

Actually I just realized this is part of our larger plan to infiltrate and take over the SEC. Already had the UT Chancellor. Now comes Mizzou. Who will be next?

No flaming honest questions. I remember he was prominent at A&M when the move was made to the SEC. So he wasn't in Charge any longer?. He was forced out there? Why?

Been going-on forever. Happens every year. Not sure how many years ago you are talking about but that fat frick drunk Bobby Burton was notorious for it in the old Rivals days pre-2001. If a kid was committed to A&M or Mizzou or even Okie State he may have been a 2 star ... but if he switched to Texas he overnight became a 4 star.

Burton is the biggest longhorn homer out there and another example of why recruiting services suck donkey slongs past the first 15 or 20 obvious blue chippers.

We call it the alabama bump around here, have for awhile. That's why I don't know why you ranters put so much stock in recruiting class rankings. The're pretty much bullshite. Either that or pinkle is genetically modifying his recruits. You decide.

There's no goddamn way we're going to let Perry run this university.

Sharp is bad enough. No. fricking. way. will Perry get that spot.

Working in and around the capitol in Austin I've been hearing for a long time that Perry was eventually gonna be A&M chancellor. However my take is that means A&M *system* chancellor and that Sharp is and always has been a place holder until Perry decides to hang it up and take that position. If you are upset about Sharp's system chancellor role and absolutely do not want Perry to get it, I think you will be SOL on that one. I think that one's been in the works ever since Sharp first took the position. Put it this way I've been hearing it from people who should know from the moment Sharp first took the spot, and where there's smoke there's usually fire.

Chancellor makes sense for Perry, President does not. Have to have the academic cred to be President and Perry barely has a Bachelors Degree. He could be a very effective Chancellor though, that job is about raising money and politics whereas the President is about working with the faculty and students.

I will say this, students at Mizzou will absolutely LOVE Loftin. He will go to every event he can on campus and support every sporting team and club. He loves to shake hands and just talk. Just a fantastic human being. He is definitely the type of guy who you leaves an impression, I would have to Google to remember who the President was when I was at A&M as the only time I was within 20 feet of him in my 4 years was when he handed me my degree.

BTW, Loftin was the "Anytime, anywhere" guy when asked about renewing the series with Texas. Guy has brass balls.

Loftin email to the students:

quote:

To the Aggie Family

When I announced, in July of this year, my resignation from the presidency of Texas A&M University, I noted that my love for students is and has been my primary motivation. At that time a return to the faculty and to teaching and research seemed the logical path for me. Since that announcement I have devoted a great deal of thought to how best to continue doing what I love -- serving students. Recently, a unique and exciting opportunity came my way, an opportunity to continue affecting the lives and futures of thousands of students, not just a few dozen enrolled in the classes I would teach or working in the laboratories where I would do research. While it is very difficult to imagine ourselves anywhere else but Aggieland, Karin and I have found a new home with many of the attributes of Texas A&M. Today the University of Missouri System is announcing that I will become the 22nd Chancellor of its flagship campus in Columbia, Missouri. As a Fightin' Texas Aggie, a piece of me will always be here, and my love for this university's students will not lessen. We look forward to maintaining the friendships we have forged here while we develop new ones in the State of Missouri. I will be leading the oldest public university west of the Mississippi, a land-grant institution that shares much with Texas A&M -- a rich history, membership in the Association of American Universities and the Southeastern Conference, an outstanding faculty and staff, and a passionate student body and alumni. We wish only the best for Texas A&M and for its students, former students, faculty and staff.

R. Bowen Loftin '71 President
