Are you being a tool? Or just kidding?

Actually my then-teenage son (we are Saints fans) showed me this site. It was fun. It has changed a lot. A lot of kids. I'll lose interest for a few months then come back during football season or to post on the Outdoor and TV/Movie board.

So is this either illegal or against NCAA regulations?

Yes to both.

The size of this will limit the NCAA. I think this has a lot to do with them. The FBI needs and I believe are aiming at the shoe companies and the NCAA. The current batch is collateral damage.

I know this is going to break y'alls hearts, but absolutely nothing here will have any impact on Sexton's eligibility. An agent was using a third party to grease the palms of those who might have the influence to steer Collin toward him after the season. Baker took the cash and cost himself a career. Nothing more, nothing less. This didn't involve steering Collin to Alabama (in fact, he was already enrolled before it took place) and wasn't about Collin signing with or taking money from an agent while he still has eligibility.

No one knows anything yet. Except that this associate ad took money to steer a kid to an agent

And the meeting was apparently recorded by the FBI.

Odds are the guy turns himself in today and some type of charges are brought

Well, we’re fricked. It was fun while it lasted.

Meet you in the cellar, Auburn? We’ll share fond memories of our basketball programs being “on the right track” over loads of alcohol to calm the nerves of this seeping into our other athletic programs.

There is zero accusation that anyone connected to Sexton was offered a dime. Baker is gone not because he committed any sort of NCAA violation, but because it's unacceptable from the university's standpoint for a guy in that position to be giving players critical advice based on his own personal gain.

Sure they are but once the FBI is done, the NCAA will have to step in and punish the players/programs for the knowing wrongful doing. That could be Auburn as well. But certainly will be players who knowingly took money.

Our guys are gone.

I don't see much panic among Bama fans. Are we concerned? Sure. But as of now, no one has pointed to any accusation or evidence that Alabama or Sexton committed an NCAA rules violation. If Sexton was not paid, this is a legal issue for the fired Bama admin rather than an NCAA issue.

For AU on the other hand, the FBI has tapes of two of your players and their family members receiving payment from Persons. At minimum you are going to likely lose the eligibility of your two best players.

I believe that you are mistaken on the "public office" meaning. Public Office is an elected official, like a Mayor. He worked for a public institution but did not hold a public office position.

No, it refers also to employees, not just elected officials.

Also, at minimum, he has violated this Alabama law:

quote:

2006 Alabama Code - Section 36-25-5 — Use of official position or office for personal gain. (a) No public official or public employee shall use or cause to be used his or her official position or office to obtain personal gain for himself or herself, or family member of the public employee or family member of the public official, or any business with which the person is associated unless the use and gain are otherwise specifically authorized by law. Personal gain is achieved when the public official, public employee, or a family member thereof receives, obtains, exerts control over, or otherwise converts to personal use the object constituting such personal gain.

And the FBI has tapes of your associate ad taking 25k to steer a kid signs with a certain advisor after he goes to the nba

Well if there is anything we have going for us here, it is that it will be really difficult for the NCAA to say Alabama knew or should have known. Our best defense: "Hell, we were so committed to following NCAA rules that we hired the guy directly from the NCAA compliance department."

I know you were logical yesterday and not in the wagon with some of your brethren on this issue. Auburn is in the same boat in this regards as well(Rich Mcglynn), but I dont think it matters whom your employees previous employers were at this point.
