I saw Mr. Nessler in a bar in Duluth, GA. several times; I never spoke to him. His daughter Reis worked there for awhile too.

I'm going to miss that golden God voiced bastard

His age caught up to him. He was as colorful a commentator as you'd find back in the day. Nessler is going to be a tremendous fit for CBS Sports. Keith Jackson was great before he started botching names and was talking about the play that was run 3 downs ago.

I'm really gonna miss verne during march madness, not so much football season. He's one of the more exciting basketball commentators out there. Him and Gary both grate on my nerves in football

Keith Jackson was great
The GOAT right there. He always had a soft spot for Alabama because he and Coach Bryant were good friends. I remember when he called the 1992 Sugar Bowl with Alabama and Miami. He was a helluva announcer

I don't hate Verne, but Nessler is a welcomed upgrade.
GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

During our NC game in 1998, Jackson told an anecdote about UT great George Cafego who had recently passed away. It was appreciated.
George Cafego (August 29, 1915 – February 9, 1998) was a college, and professional American football player and coach. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969. He went to the University of Tennessee as a halfback under coach Robert Neyland. While there, he compiled 2,139 total yards and two All-American team selections. He was also a finalist for the Heisman Memorial Trophy. In addition to running and passing the ball, Cafego also served as punter and kickoff returner, excelling at both. At Tennessee his nickname was "Bad News".[1] As a sophomore, his first year on the varsity, he already showed signs of success, catching "many an expert eye."[2] - wiki

I like Verne's enthusiasm. So he messes up a few things every now and then....it's just a football game.

Verne was alright, although he was absentminded and came in his mouth every time Bama made a play. The SEC on CBS isn't going to feel right though. It's almost a tradition to laugh at the dumbfrickery, ramblings, and hot takes of Verne and Gary.

Same, I've always enjoyed Verne and Gary. Gonna miss Verne.
I've never minded Verne but absolutely despise Gary. He is such a whiny bitch.

I've never understood the Verne hate, guy has always been solid, love the emotion and excitement he shows on big plays.
Meh. Some people are just gonna bitch. Does it really matter who is calling the game as long as you can see the game?
The posters on here don't remember a gentleman named Keith Jackson. Every other play by play guy is a wanna be compared to him anyway.
Keith reminded me of the SEC. You had Keith and then.....everybody else.

I'm gonna miss laughing at his "oh WOWs", his habitual mispronunciation of Bama player's names, and Verne and Gary's goofy banter in between and after plays.

Brad Nessler is boring. You can say a lot about Verne but you can't say he's boring. The SEC deserves an exciting play-by-play man.
