Former Birmingham Post-Herald writer and Montgomery (WCOV) radio sports guy Bob Barnes has passed away. Guy had a great radio voice. Obit said he was an Auburn fan.
As an Alabama guy listening to him, I always felt like he gave both Alabama and Auburn their props, but never hesitated to criticize either if he felt it was warranted. So, I never was quite sure which of the two he favored. (There were plenty of Bama fans who were sure that he was all-in for Auburn, and vice versa.)
Bob, I hope you're now in a better place. A big "War Eagle" to you, sir, and thanks for the memories of enjoyable radio listening.

Good question. Obit mentioned his sportswriting in the mid seventies, and his having served as sports director for WCOV (both tv and radio, now that I re-read the article) in the mid eighties.
As far as his radio show goes, I remember having heard him at around the time of Alabama's goal line stand game against Penn State (that was the 1978 season; he was furious that the coaches' poll didn't give Bama the MNC). I also remember that his sports talk show continued at least into the Perkins era (he was not a fan). Beyond that, my memory is fuzzy.

I don't remember listening to talk radio much then. First real show was Herb Winches and Ben Cook in the BHM area.

Aubs will always be booger eaters, even in the afterlife.

Even your fellow Cult members think you are a Harvey Updike wannabe with these type comments. Being shunned by the cult you so desperately want to be accepted by has to suck.
