I will say, on a play like that, had the offsides not been called and the false start had been, it really should carry an option to decline the penalty. You're essentially penalizing the defense on a great play because of something the offense did that is actually deemed advantageous to them.

I do tend to agree with this 100%. If the defense jumps offsides the offense gets a "free play". They get the option. As the rule reads now, though, the play is dead when the offense is called for illegal procedure taking away the ability of the defense getting an interception, sack or something and accepting the play. Both sides of the ball should have the opportunity to have a "free play".

I can see how the missed face mask was . . . missed. He has one finger on it and then, in an split second, moved it to the collar as the head went around to face the ref.

I didn’t see a GA player or coach scream for the call either. I think there was a missed face mask on GA when Najee had a nice run (not the long one) in ththe 3rd. His head snapped around too but you couldn’t see it for his head was turned the other direction.

That's my point.

If they had wanted a clean unbiased game called by an impartial crew they should have gotten the all time great Tom Ritter and his merry band of good old baws to call it.

There have always been missed calls and always will be. It does no good to complain about them. It goes both ways, and sometimes a team gets the better end of them and sometimes they don't.

It makes perfect sense, too. I don't understand why they made it that way.

Funny how you, other whiners and the 1-sided articles y'all link ignore all of the missed calls that favored UGA, such as this obvious PI:

i kow the refs didnt say so during the call. but truth is the uga players motion could very well have caused the motion by bama. therefore, it is offsides on uga and the penalty call was correct.

seriously, this bowl season was the absolutely worst for officiating i can remember

How is that an obvious PI? he has his hands on the ball and contact is being made. I mean, it might be, but you can't tell from that picture!

That is true only if our player crosses into the neutral zone and makes you player move. He was not in the neutral zone when they moved.

It really was, but that is part of the game. That is why I don't care for these type threads. Keep in mind it wasn't a Georgia fan who made this thread.

We are getting a bit of a bad rap because other fans bases are talking about the penalties. I and some others will argue a point, but we pretty much all agree that Alabama won fair and square and bad calls were made both ways.

Really? The ball hasn't been touched yet in that screen cap and the UGA player has him wrapped up and driving through him. Those are bang-bang plays, but that's indisputable in that shot it was PI by definition.

Really?

Yes, really. The football is on his fingertips!
The nose of the football is clearly in the WR's hand. I played WR and will typically fall on the side of the WR, but that picture doesn't show what you want it to show.

There are plenty of other obvious penalties that could be called on Georgia you could use...but this is not one of them.

We aren't missing anything. But you are.
