Use the first USM Hattiesburg exit as your stopping point. The last H-burg exit (I think the 3rd)is kinda funky

"South Hattiesburg" ? Well, there's not much there but its really the last stop until Carriere. Sure isn't anything in Purvis,Lumberton,Poplarville or Millard.

South Hattiesburg,I think that's what it was called, I did notice the exit was just past the county line.

Lots of jacked up former police cars on bling rims seemed to be milling about when I stopped for gas there.

The drive from a Slidell to Tuscaloosa is boring and horrible. Hardy street exit in Hattiesburg is your best stop. laurel is a shithole

If I don't have a book on tape for the drive between Tuscaloosa and New Orleans/Baton Rouge, I literally want to kill myself.

I love road trips, and there are so many breathtaking stretches in the south, but that one is just boring as hell.

You like Laurel? Hattiesburg is much a much nicer stop.

Nothing but pine trees on both sides of the interstate...

Must confess the Mrs. and I stopped off at the South Miss State Fair at the South Laurel exit last October on the way down for the Auburn game and had a blast.Nothing fancy, just a good old fashioned fair with the expected rides and games and food that is terrible for you but awesome.

There's that tiny little stretch between Hattiesburg and Laurel that has some pretty meadows and a creek/river with a little house overlooking it. That's sadly the highlight of the entire 5 hour drive.

It lasts about 2 minutes, when the truck plant interrupts the scenery.

Leave on Monday. Fly into New Orleans. Spend Monday through Thursday there. On Friday drive to Baton Rouge.

I dated a girl from Laurel. I got guilted into stopping at her mom's house on Sunday on the way home from Mardi Gras. What I thought was going to be a one hour put stop for a quick bite, turned into a 4 hour trip to hell. Her mom had "just put the roast in" when we pulled in the driveway.

No booze to be found, and fighting a 3 day Mardi Gras hangover.

I haven't stopped in Laurel since.

Plus the state troopers on the route are nazis and hide in the bushes.

What if we all started leaving funny little signs along the way for our TD comrades that made the drive more fun.

Birmingham to Baton Rouge road trip advice for Nov. 3 game
Best advise I got is pack your Kevlar. BR and NOLA are a couple of battlefields right now.

No. Not downtown, uptown, Audubon Park, Garden District, Lakeview, the Quarter, or City Park.
Unless he plans on exiting the I-10 and driving straight to the inner/central city crack houses and gang areas for some reason, he would not have a problem in N.O.
Not Baton Rouge, either; unless he plans on going to North Baton Rouge for some reason......

Road trips are fun IMO, but should we just grab a cheap flight to NOLA?

There are a few things to be said for doing this. First, there is more interesting stuff to do in and around New Orleans for 2 or 3 days than exists in all of Alabama and Missippi put together (well, unless you're seriously into agribusiness and obesity). It's an easy 60 minute drive from New Orleans to Baton Rouge, so keep your Saturday night reservation in BR (you will be too depressed, too drunk, or both, to do that drive back starting after 11PM), spend Friday (and Thursday as well if you have the time)night in NOLA, but leave VERY early on Saturday morning to come to BR--parking anywhere near the campus will start disappearing by 9AM.
It will be intense, and lots of fun (until about 7:00--after that you're on your own!).

On my way back home after the South Carolina game I'm going to stop and spray paint on a bridge at the Heidelberg/Bay Springs exit 'for a good time call Bellabama'.
