The issue that this guy can't handle is capitalism. All he has done is plug Saban's name and numbers into the same old tired formula of class warfare.

When a third grade arts and craft teacher can figure a way to generate the revenue and success that people like coaches or CEO's do then they'll have a legitimate argument, until that time we'd all do the world a service and quit buying into or even clicking to read their liberal drivel.

In general, shite has gotten way out of hand.

I'd have to do the research, but I'm pretty confident that there are CEO's of companies that generate much more revenue than Alabama, Inc., who make half of less than Saban's salary.

It is the market, market drives the price.

Is it crazy on the surface? Yes

If I was Alabama would I have paid him that much? Yes, but... Alabama football would have huge revenues regardless of the coach, the president wants the school to grow (Auburn has a 25,000 enrollment limit) and football helps that.

Where will it end? I have zero idea...

There are a whole lot of overpaid people in that column, including the writer - but Saban is not one of them.

Pay raise for Saban is the beginning of the end. Expectations will be unreal. Auburn will win title this year and play in the game again next year. LSU will win it in 2015. Bama fans will run him out of town by then

OK. Then why doesn't this hack make as much as say Thomas Sowell, or maybe Dave Barry, or maybe Charles Krautwhateverhisnameis? Maybe it's because he's not as good a columnist as they are. Just like there's not a better coach in the country than Saban so that's how he's compensated.

Yawn........

Did you also notice the photo they chose to use that makes him look 4ft tall? They really accented his short stature.

Enjoying your Chris... err Holiday break? It must be tough for you being away from those precious snow flakes - unable to make hand turkeys and color holiday trees.

Here's a clue Corky, I don't give a damn if every corporation on the planet makes more than the football program at Alabama generates. Furthermore I don't care if Saban makes more money than all those corporate CEO's. The gist of my statement and many other posts in this thread is we're tired of being spoon fed the pablum of socialism.

I am no fan of Nick Saban, but this is capitalism. If you paid the man $20 million, I would not blink an eye. He is worth it when you consider what a joke Alabama football was before he got there.

He is worth every penny and far more to the Gumps. They need him desperately and he brings in millions and millions more than what he is paid.

When he leaves, whenever that is, it will be a dark, dark day in the state of Alabama. Think of how much he provides just in mental well-being so that Alabamians have something to be happy about. Priceless.

Agreed. I didn't even think this was debatable. And no telling how much his presence has done for donations. He's probably paid for his salary without even trying.

If bama knew Saban was gonna have the success he has had, paying him 15 mill a year would've been worth it. Since Bama's recent run, hasn't their oos students increases by a lot?

Uncalled for but I agree. It's a state with no professional team.

As an LSU fan, I have no problem with Nicky's pay rate. But what I do find so amusing that he always says "it is not about the money". If that was truely the case, why didn't he just accept the raise he got in MARCH? I am very much a believer in the capitalist system, but he really needs to stop saying that as that is pure BS.

He is worth the 7.5 million because it is market value and likely UT would have paid it if not Alabama. He brings money, but he contributes VERY LITTLE to education. Let's not kid ourselves. The University of Alabama could get a lot more millage out of 7.5 million for pure education purposes investing in a lot of other things besides a football coach.

Interesting point no doubt and very likely true. For arguments sake most big time successful companies aren't as dependent on their CEO as a football program is of their head coach, especially one like Saban.

If I’m not mistaken his staffs at Alabama and LSU have had very little in common personnel wise, he is the common denominator. Watching Dooley and to some degree Muschamps fail you can tell he is the brain behind the operation.

Typical liberal idiot. At least Saban clearly adds huge ROI on the money he makes, there are plenty of coaches out there that make a ton of money but are horrible.

Whenever I read crap like this I also can't help but think of Hollywood. I have a family member that used to be a major actor's personal assistant. He got paid $7 million one time to shoot a Japanese car commercial. All he did was hang out in a trailer with an entourage of 20 for a week while actually "working" for about an hour a day. I don't resent that actor though because he makes that money because he has built himself up to that point where his value is so high. The company also wouldn't pay him that unless they knew he would have a positive ROI for them.

I wonder if this journalist hates everyone with "too much" money (whatever that is) or just certain people he deems unworthy of that money? Wouldn't it be great to have someone like him decide who deserves to be rich and who doesn't?

I didnt think we would miss football this bad, this soon. only the retarded midgets at this place could be arguing academic stats this soon after the season.

yes he is overpaid, most coaches are. anyone who has had their life saved by a professional who makes 100k a year will gain some perspective. and the increase in out of state tuition because of football? please, more like because of bammers insecurity regarding reality. think of the academic stats put forth in the same light as bammer adding all those titles out of the blue in '85. they cant stand having average academic standings so they recruit all these genius asian kids & the like to make them look resepctable on paper. most of those kids dont bring in a damn dime. this entire conversation is stupid as hell and most of you idiots should be dizzy from all the spinning!
