This is the 21st Century. Coaches don't just walk away from successful jobs. Very few times does a coach leave a great job to go to another school. If they are an alum, orbit is their dream job, Then it could happen.
Texas can't do it. Bama can't do it. Those days are gone. You get a kid major guy or out of work guy who shows promise. When we go looking to replace Saban, dontngonoff thinking we can have who ever we wish for. These are days of parity, and coaches can make their own names at their own schools. See Art Briles and Tom Herman. /thread.

I just really don't like the Bama tradition of using Coach in front of coaches names. Mal Moore hadn't coached in 30 years. I know the Bear was Coach Bryant to the players and that's fine, but I ain't gonna go around talking about Coach Kiffin or Coach Pruitt. It's not a big deal but it's a pet peeve. Don't taze me bro.

It's a sign of respect. I would call them "Coach" if I were addressing them personally.

No taze! ...although it is a sign of respect much like being called "doctor". You'll find that coaches call each other "coach", especially in the presence of other people. I always do it out of respect.

This one statement sums you up, pal. It's obvious that you have an ax to grind with Battle and Gaston. Suggestion: You can do nothing about the hire or anything to do with the AD at Alabama, so get over it....and yourself and DWI!!

The best summation of the OP that has been posted, evidenced by the pre-judging of a pretty successful coach before he is on the job and the really virulent language when talking about the AD. Argument is not well reasoned out and rests more on an obvious dislike for Battle. Goff may or may not be successful, but this guy i staking a wild shot. I am not an insider, but I doubt many athletic department decisions that do not include Saban.

May already been noted, and I'm not reading this whole thread, but Goff was a good recruiter at Georgia. Maybe he's a better coach now than he was then.

Your athletic department is probably the most profitable it's ever been in the entire history of your University

Battle is a very good businessman and has made a lot of money. As an AD, he's just above "really sucks." He's made several decisions that alienated students, fans, club sport athletes and just about anyone else you can name. His hiring process is an all too public three ring circus. You would have thought the Gregg Marshall fiasco would have taught him a lesson but apparently it did not. Avery Johnson contacted Alabama about the job first...talk about good luck. The baseball hire was pretty comical too. I like the Goff hire, he looks like a winner on paper. But he was also plan C or D. Again, if he's successful, it was a stroke of good luck. God forbid this man hire our next football coach. I'm ready to hire a professional AD, and dump this CEO impersonating one. Regarding Ozzie being his replacement, I'm all for that but I've always heard he didn't meet the job's educational requirements of at least having a Masters degree. I'm happy with Goff and CAJ, but I'm really pissed at how the process of hiring then took place.

Elizabeth died at 79 in 2011. Roseanne Barr peaked in what 1992?

Seems like an out of touch analogy.
