That's the name I was looking for

The Varsity closed after my freshmen year

Was that the same bar that used to get around the Sunday blue laws with the whole "we are a private club" thing? You could become a "member" for like $10 and get away with serving "members only" on Sundays.

The "member" bar I can remember like that was just across the river and it was appropriately called the "over the river club". Went there once and only once. Was a rough dive bar.

its boring and there isnt anything to do. the fact that this happened on campus is even worse. this really reflects what kind of a place tuscaloosa is

I lived in Baton Rouge for a while. So don't try to convince me of how safe it is in the general area around LSU's campus. I know shite happens on The Strip from time to time, but that is hardly a reason for a LSU fan to talk shite considering.

You don't need to go there. First time I ever went to Baton Rouge I saw the biggest melee I've ever seen to this day. It was the weekend of the 1995 Auburn/LSU game in BR. My Birmingham Southern friend, his girlfriend at Birmingham Southern who was from and grew up in BR, and 2 Auburn friends were in town that weekend. Went to Reggie's or Bogie's (can't remember the exact name) and my Auburn friend gets jumped for no reason and he finally manages to get out with his shirt all ripped up and only a few scrapes and bruises. Dude wasn't doing a thing and gets jumped by a bunch of drunk idiots. That was at a bar with nothing but frat rats too. Can't imagine how bad the seedier bars in BR are.

Tuscaloosa is just fine. Nothing great at all but certainly not boring with nothing to do. Lake Tuscaloosa is sweet and the area now has some decent public golf courses as well. The city has gotten MUCH better since I was in school. I wouldn't have cared to live there when I was in school but wouldn't mind so much anymore.

You're comparing two different entities. One is a capital city and becoming a major economic hub of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region. The other is a college town that's size is directly related the University.
