Does it really matter. There are 11 conferences within Division 1-A football. There are only four spots in the "playoff" system. One less of the "power 5" makes it easier for the committee to pick the money conferences to put in to further their revenue.

The big 12 are not a power 5 conference at this point anyways. Whole conference is around the level of the sec east

This.

They may have an undefeated champ left out of the playoffs.

Big 12 is designed to create championships for Tejas and the fighting Stoops, and they can't even do that successfully

I just saw this on Twitter from Stewart Mandel ...

quote:

Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard. "The Big 12 exists bc Texas & OU are in the room." W/o them "We're the Mountain West." LINK

They are going to blow up in the next 2-3 years

It's a clusterfrick.

UT will go independent

OU and Kansas to the SEC.

Kansas State and Iowa State to the BIG 10

Texas Tech and Oklahoma State to the PAC 12

West Virginia to the ACC

Baylor and TCU back to the Mountain West

No way it happens in the next 2-3 years.

The Big 12 GOR exit fee is over $100 million. No one can afford that.

Now in 2023 when that GOR is worth $30 million we will see movement maybe. Maybe not.

This definitely means it blows up in the next 3-5 years. Tx and Okl wanted to keep their options open. I see it shaking out like this:

OU (maybe OSU) to SEC
KU to BIG
Texas will join ND as full members in the ACC.

Texas has already looked into and declined joining the Pac 12. I can't see them joining a conference of the upper Mid West. Already on record as too snobby for SEC (plus they won't rejoin A&M in a conference.

The rest of the teams will have to scramble joining either the Pac 12 or lessor conferences.

I have nothing against West Virginia but there is 0 chance they could get the votes to join ACC. SEC might add them if combined with Oklahoma.

I don't think either of those schools provide enough on their own to warrant being picked up. I've seen a lot of speculation with Tech paired with TU, and Okie lite paired with OU.

Neither of those teams will be power 5 once the big 12 dissolves.

Big 10 wouldn't take Kansas State, they would take Kansas.

Big 10 also wouldn't double dip into Iowa. Iowa state only has AAU status going for them.

Wouldn't surprise me if the first chip to fall abut 6-7 years from now to be Kansas to the Big ten and then the Big ten will cover the buyout for Virginia to get to 16.

ACC replaces Virginia with WVU and sits at 14 waiting for ND to commit as 15(which will never happen).

Texas, TT, OU, and OSU to the PAC.

Baylor, TCU, Kansas State, and Iowa State left out in the cold. Would probably join Mountain west or American.
