With the Brewery/Craft beer scene exploding in Knoxville and all over the country for that matter, it got me wondering.. Which cities within the conference are among the best for what is listed in the subject line of this thread?
As far as Breweries go, Knoxville is up to
-Balter Beer Works
-Crafty Bastard Brewing Co.
-Alliance Brewing Co.
-Fanatic Brewing Co.
-Saw Works Brewing Co.
-Black Horse Brewing
-Downtown/Woodruffs Brewing Co.
-Last Days of Autumn Brewing Co.
-Smoky Mountain Brewery
-Cold Fusion Brewing
-Prententious Beer and Glass Co.(Brewery coming soon)
-Schulz Brau Brewing (Opening this summer)
-Hexagon Brewing (Coming soon)
-Geezers Brewing (Coming soon)
-Scruffy City (Already a bar/Brewery coming soon)
-Chisolm Tavern Brewery (Coming soon)
We have roughly 25-30 bars/breweries/beer gardens within 3-5 miles of campus with an Ale Trail on the way with some really solid dining options mixed in. What does it look like around the league?
With only visiting a few conference campuses outside of Knoxville I couldn't accurately say, but if I had to guess.. I've heard good things from Fayetteville, Knoxville, Nashville, Athens & Lexington?
Which cities would you consider to be towards the top?
If you're ever visiting and interested in a Brew Tour, check these guys out. They do an outstanding job of driving you around on a Party Bus and visiting the different breweries around the city.

That's Fayetteville.
Actual microbrewering operations in the city of Fayetteville:
West Mountain
Fossil Cove Brewing
Columbus House
Apple Blossom Brewing
Within the metropolitan area:
Saddlebock (Springdale)
Ozark Beer Co. (Rogers)
Bike Rack Brewing (Bentonville)
New Province (Rogers)
Core Brewing (Springdale)
Black Apple Cidery (Springdale)
Some of those not actually from Fayetteville have taprooms or tasting rooms in Fayetteville.
There are probably some I'm missing. Pretty good craft beer scene here.
Fayetteville Ale Trail
HogsHead Brewery Tours
Foam Fest

Nashville can definitely be classified as a beercation spot IMO. They've got a solid selction. They are the only city in the state with more breweries than Knoxville with something like 3 more I believe.

Not by #, but Athens has two breweries that can hang and likely beat most others in Terrapin and Creature Comforts

Terrapin does some incredible beer

It's cool that in Fayetteville and the rest of NWA, pretty much everywhere you go, every restaurant, every bar, even chains, have local beers on tap. Things white ppl like.

It's trending this way in Knoxville as well.
I look forward to making it out to NWA one day. That's a strong list of things to do/places to go

Missouri has a long history with the brewery industry. The "Beer Institute" has reported of the 43,000 jobs in the industry 21,000 are in Missouri.
Missouri is home to the most well known family in the brewing industry. The Busch family lost control of Anheuser-Busch in a 2008 hostile takeover, but the family started a knew brewery in 2011 the William K. Busch Brewery. It employ's a prodigy and one the top brewmasters in the world. Marc Gottfried is the "most decorated brewmaster in St. Louis history". He is 40 years old and been brewing beer for 26 years.
What the state and Columbia, Mo may lack in amount of Breweries they make of for in quality. My favorite is probably Schlafly from St. Louis and the Wheat Ale at the Brew Co. in Springfield, Mo.
Missouri is the best Brewery state in the SEC. Just like Kentucky and Tennessee are the Whisky/ Bourbon states.

In Columbia, it's mainly Broadway Brewery and Log Boat Brewing. However, Missouri is a huge beer state thanks to the influence of Anheuser-Busch, and just hours from Columbia you have Mother's Brewing Co. in Springfield and then you have Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City which is booming right now.
Boulevard's Pale Ale is my go-to beer for any occasion

Sorry fam, but just because you have the most beer sold doesn't mean MO is the best brewery state in the SEC or even the best brewery scene.
I don't know shite about Columbia's beer scene, but Kansas City and St. Louis have awesome scenes and breweries.
Anheuser-Busch does produce a shite ton of products though. I looked on Wiki and saw they produce Leffe, Hoegaarden, Bass, Bud, Busch, Landshark, Michelob, Natty Light, Shock Top, King Cobra, Hurricane, Bacardi Silver family and Tequiza). And they just bought Breckenridge Brewery too.
I'd gladly throw all those out for Schlafly. They have fantastic beer. Their pumpkin is phenomenal. St. Louis does have a rad beer scene. I'd just much rather go to Knoxville or Fayetteville personally.
EDIT: Not enough coffee.

If I were traveling somewhere to experience the craft brewery scene, the least criteria would be if that city had an SEC school located nearby.

Right. But you're on a SEC site. So for the sake of this thread and for all those that travel to away games.. we will keep the scope SEC cities.

Couple years ago Terrapin and Swamp Head made a collaboration beer called Bitter Rivalry, wish they would do that again.

Tuscaloosa has had 3 open since 2012, but I doubt it can compete with Fayetteville, Knoxville, and definitely not Nashville.
Druid City Brewing is pretty damn good though. The Tuskaloosa Stout is awesome and their porter will put you on your arse.
