A good one for Georgia is Todd Gurleys kick return vs Auburn in 2014. He just returned from suspension and it was the first time he touched the ball, I think.

And then the fake punt penalty soon after that. Amazed we won the game despite 2 tds taken off the board.

1981 Egg Bowl. State kicks a FG to take a 17-14 lead with less than a minute left. OM gets the kick-off, completes a pass to around the State 40. Next play, State picks off the pass in the end zone to preserve the win. But wait....no..
The official (Dick Pace was his name) has thrown a flag for pass interference. Ball is placed at the one. Next play Fourcade scores for OM to get the win 21-17. Interference call was bogus. Replays show the DB and WR basically running side by side and the DB jumping up to catch the ball for the Interception. Of course, nowadays, it would be a 15 yard penalty, the ball would have been at the 25 yard line with about 15 seconds left. OM would have had a decision to make, kick a FG to tie or possibly take one shot at the end zone for the win since this was pre overtime days.

Tennessee had 13 players on the field in 2010 against LSU.

That dumbass couldn't keep his mouth shut when he did color commentary for Miami games back about 10 years ago. The U got into a brawl with FIU and Lamar was talkng about getting on an elevator to go down on the field and get involved and finishing the brawl in the tunnel after the game. His employer fired his arse 2 days later.

Possibly the most famous negated play ever.

It was 20+ years ago, I was young, but I remember that play vividly. However, I have absolutely no recollection of a penalty.

The Bama DB on the play (no idea who it was) bit on a pump fake and let Gossom blow by him. He managed to shove Gossom to the sideline just enough to get him out of bounds.

IIRC, they changed the rule the next year to allow a receiver to come back in bounds if he is forced out by a defensive player.

Not sure if best but certainly pivotal. 1993 Peach vs North Carolina. Leading 14-0, we had 2 touchdowns called back due to penalties in the 2nd quarter. So what should have been a 28-0 lead at halftime was a 14-0 lead. We managed only a field goal in the 2nd half. NC opened the 2nd half with a long TD drive. We lost 21-17.

This. That score would have changed the rest of that game. We would have been playing from in the lead instead of from behind.

Vaughn's missed PAT in the Auburn-LSU game of 2004 was negated by the phantom 'leaping' call.

The play itself was shite, but shifted power in the West for that year...because overtime was on the horizon in that game.

Spurrier's first year at SC. 2005 @UGA. Sidney Rice has a TD catch called back earlyish in the game, I think it was offensive pass interference. SC goes on to lose that game 17-15 (we also missed an XP).

Now if that TD had stood there is no telling how the rest of the game would have played out because decisions for both teams could've changed invariably throughout the game.

However, if that TD had stood and if that had pushed SC to victory the Gamecocks would've won the East in Spurrier's first year. Could you imagine the recruiting boost from that shite?

To me, bigger would be penalty that directly cost LSU a big win. September 1979 - Unranked LSU leads #1 ranked USC 12-10 with 4 minutes left and USC faces 3rd and 9 on their own 36 yard line. LSU sacks the USC QB to bring up 4th and long and punting situation for #1 Trojans. But Tigers called for facemask on the play giving USC a fresh set of downs after which All American Charles White leads a time consuming TD drive giving the Trojans a 17-12 victory to remain undefeated and #1.

For me, That penalty will also be the biggest play for LSU football ever negated by penalty.

I didn't read the whole thread so,sorry if someone already said this one. George Teague catching Lamar Thomas from behind and taking the ball away was negated by an offside penalty if I recall correctly.

Cost us a mnc. Dam forward handoff.

If I recall after the negated TD we drove down and kicked a FG, wiped out cause we were off sides. Backed up 5 yards and missed it. 10 points off the board in 1 drive, lost by 2 or 3. That is the story of CMR in Jax.

Don't have the link but it was LSU vs VANDY back when VANDY was decent and LSU was average at best. Last play of the game w LSU trailing by less than TD was 45-50 yard hail mary to Todd Kinchen (LSU receiver). He caught the ball to win the game only to be waived off for pass interference. That ended the game. The thrill of victory turned immediately to agony of defeat. That was a tough one.
