They are called the Golden Girls because they are part of the Golden Band from Tigerland. They have been called the Golden Girls since 1965 according to wiki.

I saw them in person, and they can definitely entertain a crowd. Well choreographed moves. The LSU golden girls are hot, but they certainly can't dance like the Aggie Dance team does.
Who knows about the other schools' dance squads. I'm sure Florida girls can dance.
