Skip always told the story that Polk taught him to paint old baseballs with white paint to make them look new/save money. Players on the bench were made to pay fans to bring foul balls back to the dugout. LSU literally had no ground crew & players, as part of their daily routine, had to provide all the field maintenance. If the SEC were to ever have a Mount Rushmore of college baseball coaches, Polk & Skip would be the only 2 on it.
