So you're telling me the best coach in college football history didn't have his team up to play a team he had trouble beating?

These were college kids, all of them the same age as the ones who play college ball now. They had already been awarded the SEC Championship as well as the AP & UPI National Championship. And lastly they were in South Beach. You can practice kids until they throw up stomach acid but that doesn't mean they'll be motivated to play a football game when there is nothing at stake.

We had college kids too, and we won our bowl game. Guess our team was just better.

Or maybe your team was more motivated? You finish 10-0 in the SWC and are only awarded the FWAA while Alabama wins the AP & UPI national championships with the same record against similar competition. Similar thing happened to us after we finished 10-0 in '66 and #3 in both polls. We came out and crushed #5 Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl.

Plus, Arkansas and Texas were both playing for position in the polls for 1965.

The KKK awarded them the title in '62.

3 different poll-services declared Ole Miss national Champions in 1959 and 1 poll-service declared Ole Miss national champs in 1962, would have been consensus had it not been for the integration fiasco, our luck I guess.

Keep in mind until the late 60's there were a myriad of polling services out there, which is why the Alabamas, Notre Dames and Oklahomas of the world can claim so many.

the 1959 team has the highest Sagarin rating of any SEC team. Only 1971/1995 Nebraska graded higher

You were also the best team and most deserving of the national championship in '66. Similar to '64 Arkansas.

But after 1950, the AP, UPI, and to a lesser extent the FWAA were the only three that teams really cared about.

Congrats on winning your exhibition game. Too bad some people just can't get in their heads that the bowl games did not count back then.

Difference is '64 Arkansas won a share of the national championship,'66 Alabama did not.

But unlike Arkansas with 1964, Alabama doesn't count 1966 because the AP selected ND as the national champion.

Syracuse got all 4 (AP, Coaches, FWAA, NFF) in 59; so did USC in 62. Bama/ND/OU only claim those after 1950.

I just looked them up, if OM does indeed claim 59 and 62 then they're on the same level as Bama 41 and UT 40/67.

There are some decent accomplishments in there, some top 10 finishes, division title, one of the longest streaks of being ranked in the nation, but alas we still have a sad history. But got to start somewhere right?

So give me something to shoot for her guys.

SC in the past three years 9-2, 11-2, 11-2 ... if we go say 14-0 and 12-2 over the next two years and win a MNC in the process, (very big IF I know), that would be a good five year run - one of the really good ones I guess?

Well we were in a very similar position before Spurrier.
