I think Arkansas matches up favorably with Wofford, and pretty dang even with North Carolina. I know people probably think I'm crazy, but if the Hogs play the way that they're capable, there's no reason why they can't make the Sweet 16. If the same Arkansas team that lost to Ole Miss and LSU shows up they may very well lose to Wofford.

They would have to play worse than that to lose to this team

Honestly? I want some some first round wins for the SEC. Whatever team. That having been said, we don't have many easy brackets other then Kentucky who very much earned it. If we get two or three teams into the second weekend it is a triumph for the conference.

That all having been said, I like the SEC to win it all this year behind Kentucky.

Seems perfectly accurate to me.

If Georgia is 100% healthy, which I don't know if they are, they can take Michigan State to the wire with a chance to win.

If Ole Miss makes it past BYU tonight they have a nice little opening for a run if they can get our of their slump. Arky could make some noise if they beat UNC as well. Those are the two best shots I think.

UGA I think is going to have their hands full with Michigan State. Hard to bet against Izzo that early in the tournament. LSU could get by NC State but I don't see them beating Nova.

Besides UK I've got...

Arky losing in the Sweet 16 to UNC, although I had a hard time with that decision. I think they're more than capable of knocking the Heels off. I'd have both UNC and Arky losing to Wisconsin in the Elite 8 though.

I've got LSU beating NC State but losing to 'Nova in the 2nd round

I've got UGA losing to Michigan St. The Spartans nearly won their conference tourny, and who knows, I might be picking them because of their "name brand"

I've got OM losing to Baylor in the 2nd round. Although their games vs BYU and potentially Xavier are difficult choices.

It is a tough road for the SEC. But you know what, we recently won a ton of football championships by facing a tough road. Kentucky to win. Other SEC teams to represent.

Is Mickey going to be out for LSU's game against NC State?

It would be interesting to see Wisconsin's offense run against Arkansas considering we're so long in all positions. If we get the tempo up, we've got a shot. The main factor will be making shots, because we won't be getting many offensive rebounds. If we shoot near our average from 3, we have a shot. If we shoot like we shot against Kentucky both times, we lose. Neither Wofford nor NC scares me. NC is an overrated name and Wofford matches up horribly with us.

As good as Portis is, I think he'd have a tough time with Kaminsky. His offensive game is just so versatile.

They don't slow you down quite as much as some previous Bo Ryan squads, but they can still make a game miserable.

If we get that far I just don't think we beat Wisconsin. If we get them out of their comfort zone and into a running game then sure.

Wisconsin is a nightmare team to face if they are up for the game and one of the few teams that could beat Kentucky.

Mostly because they could slow the game down enough to potentially stall the very potent Wildcat offense. I think Kentucky beats them, but it is a bare knuckle brawl unless they break it open.

Better question!

How far do the 5 teams need to advance for the SEC to get some credit for good basketball.

Would this do it?
1 F 4 team (UK)
1 E. 8 team (ARK)
2 S16 teams (UGA, LSU)
1 in the second round (OM)

this would follow up lasts years success of
2 F 4 teams (UK, UF)
1 S16 team (UT)

An excellent question. But I fear with our draws this year, once we get past the first round it is a very rough road for the SEC.

Setting aside my joy in poking other SEC teams with a stick... other then Kentucky... Arky, Ole Miss, LSU, and Georgia all have the talent to make runs in the tournament. Best scenario they all do.

Worst. They don't and Kentucky doesn't make the Elite 8. In which case we have a suicide watch for the next few weeks for our Kentucky posters who have been waiting for this season.

Honestly, it would suck to lose but the reality is there's a reason only 7 D-1 teams have gone wire to wire undefeated. This team has been a lot of fun to watch either way.

And Ole Miss, and Georgia and LSU. Look, I love mocking you guys, but all of those teams have some real talent. They can do some damage if they get going.

Arky not getting past Wofford/UNC. OM and UK are only SEC tourney wins.
