I was too young to watch/appreciate those shows.

But I distinctly remember my dad laying down the law to us kids...."Out of the damn house - I will be watching Coach for a hour and I will not be disturbed."

We knew we better get our little asses lost or we'd pay hell if dad heard a peep out of us.

Not sure we'd ever see Coach Bryant or Coach Jordan wearing a shirt like Johnny's.

Amazed he was sober enough to film on a Sunday.

Trust me he wasn't. The Bear was a model of consistency to functional alcoholics everywhere.

I live in Atlanta and we used to get both the Vince Dooley/UGA and Pepper Rodgers shows when he was at Tech. Rodgers was particularly funny because tech didnt win a whole lot. So they'd show the plane ride over...the pregame meal...interview mamas...whatever. You'd get about 3 minutes of film when Tech lost, which was often.

Dad would pop a huge bowl of popcorn and we'd get our Cokes (the 10 oz. glass bottles that you could return for a three cent deposit), and we'd watch the Bear's show. Good times. RIP, Dad.

Dye always tried to copy his hero, mentor, and role model (Bear) in all things.

I think it's kind of creepy.
