He did not "slap his wife around." Even in the pre-internet 24/7/365 coverage, Bear liked him some Bear and rubbed some folks the wrong way. Don't you think if he roughed up Mary Harmon in Lexington, College Station or Tuscaloosa/Birmingham it would have made the rounds?

Considering in 1950 or so while at UK he wanted to recruit the son of one of the line cooks at the dorm (who was a black fellow),who did wind up signing with a Big 10 team, I want some links or proof of him being racist.

I thought Bryant was awesome. I'll never understand the zeal so many have to attempt to trash the man.

Not related to drinking, but a neat discussion about Bryant. Texags interview where 3 Aggies from the 57 gator bowl team talk about Bryant’s last game/season at A&M.

What's hard to believe is that when the Bear was Saban's age... He was already dead.

It just seems unbelievable that he was only 69 when he died.

Point is that Neyland never lost to a Bear Bryant team!!

Really?
It sounds like the point was about Coach Bryant being a "drunk, alcoholic and a racist!...and a Bryant coached Alabama team never lost nor played a Neyland team, so what's your real point?
