Because Mississippi is a so-so state for talent that is poached by SEC programs on every side, while Florida is simply THE BEST state for talent in college football.

That would be my reason.

Once again...not one bit of that has kept him from being the #1 team in the country right now. That whole "Florida has the most talent" dog just doesn't hunt. Top players leave the state of Florida all the time.

Meh, I might have a few years to do that. Merlin might be gone after this season...

1) facilities...Overrated. With the money that will start pouring in from the SEC network, MSU will be able to make whatever improvements they want.

2) recruiting base...Irrelevant. State lines are mythical boundaries. He has 30 commits in the current class, 14 from out of state, including FL, TN, GA, and AL.

3) prestige.. Says who? He just got his team on the cover of SI and probably is gonna be in NYC with the Heisman winner.

4) resources and 5) salary...Again, MSU will be making more than enough cash to keep him. Every school in the conference will be rolling in dough.

I lived in Gainesville for 7 years. Outside of the university, there isn't shite there. Once you get 10 minutes outside of town, it's every bit as redneck as anywhere in the conference. Yeah, the beach is an hour away, but Dan Mullen isn't moving just to have a short drive to the beach.

I can't tell if this is serious or not. On the off hand it is, let me take a second to educate you. Money & recruiting. Sure, FSU is currently the top team in Florida but with the influx of SEC Network money coming in, in the next 5 years or so the UF program will be worth $60-70 million more. That money and facilities, combined with one of the best States for recruiting where kids want to play in the SEC (not to mention you can grab from Southern Georgia) and you have the chance to do special things there. Not to mention you leave a cow patty of a program in the most difficult division in college football that will never be a perennial tier 1 SEC program and yea... sustainability, money, facilities, ease of recruiting... the Florida job is miles ahead of MSU.

I still hate Florida but let's be logical here.

I'm not worried. He's having a great year with his players. He would have no pressure here going forward if he keeps it up. We'd be fine with winning 7-8 every year with a year like this one (hopefully 10+ wins) peppered in every 4-6 years.

At FL he would be under pressure if he wasn't in the playoff race by year 2.

I'm really not. Look at it like this: If we landed Mullen on the backside of a Croom led program imagine who we could get now?

If Mullen left now it would be the easiest, deepest, turnkey team ever inherited in CFB.

its upsetting that you actually believe this. if mullen leaves, yall are fricked.

No we're not. With the SEC money and the stocked talent we'd get a good coach easily. My vote would be to roll Geoff Collins over from DC. He is going to be a good HC very soon.

Now let me take a second to educate you. MSU gets just as big a piece of that pie as Florida.

He's already getting kids from there to come to MSU. And what about all that talent that you guys have there in LA that he can poach?

Looks to me like he's already doing special things.

Yeah, your hatred of MSU is definitely showing...but seriously, how tough is the SEC west looking to Dan Mullen right now?

It's pretty clear that Starkville has surpassed Gainesville as one of the premier college football destinations.

He's doing pretty damn well in the west right now, don't you think? I don't see that as an issue. Not one bit.

2009 3-5
2010. 4-4
2011. 2-6
2012. 4-4
2013. 3-5
2013. 3-0

Yes, he is really setting the west on fire.

You can read, right? Go back and read all the reasons I mentioned.

Seriously...and someone explain this to me like I'm someone who's never followed college football...if Florida is the premier destination for coaches that some of you seem to think it is, how in the hell do they end up hiring Ron Zook and Will Muschamp? They hired a guy who had never head- coached a single college football game.
