FSU clobbered us in the initial game in Nov of 96! Danny Wuerffel got manhandled that day ( not sure how he got up)...anyway there was a rematch in the NC game and the favor was more than returned by the 'ol ballcoach and co. The lack of similarity is that we played in their crib for the 1st game and it was not an SEC match up. BUT..the similarity is in the fact that Bama could come out of this with the last laugh. I wonder if you avid tards who have nothing better to do know how many times there have been rematches in NC games and result?

'96 was the only one I know of. Are there any others?

Oh ya and UF raped FSU the second time

I think there is a distinction that in the case of UF/FSU it was a matchup of #1 vs #3...

FSU manhandled Florida in the first game w/ late hits and roughing the passer penalties. it was clearly their strategy, but not the way the game should be played. Spurrier whined which put the refs on notice, and UF blew out FSU in the rematch.

LSU and Bama was a brilliant chess match that was played straight up. There is no reason the game won't be played exactly the same next time.

You mean by their "playing to the echo of the whistle" strategy? Because they only won the first game 24-21, they didn't clobber us.

Yea right...honey badger had the cheap shot of the century against Dre.

I guess Bama will win this game since the UF/FSU rematch set the precedent for rematches. Oh well, maybe next year for my Tigers.

Warrick Dunn was also injured in the second game and the FSU backup had been kicked off the team. Dunn willed the Noles to victory in the first game so that also had an effect.

I doubt either team runs the other into the ground like that rematch.

This

Of course there is one big similarity - a bowl game rematch with the potential to crown a single team champ

Some differences:
1) Arizona State losing in the Rose Bowl helped Florida, ASU had been undefeated but was edged out by tOSU 17-20. Presumably if ASU had won that game ASU would have been AP and coaches poll champ
2) FSU was the home team when they beat Florida in 1996
3) Warrick Dunn being injured for the Sugar Bowl is something I had forgotten, he was unbelievable in the regular season game against Florida. I remember that and FSU absolutely beating Danny W to hell the first time around

So if the BCS were around then, it would probably have been FSU/ASU in the national title game and there would have been no rematch.

The bowl alliance was around then. The PAC10 and BIG10 did not participate. That is why the rematch happened, the two highest ranked teams from participating conferences.

Whining? It was pure fact. I remember that game as clearly as if it was played yesterday.

FSU got away with so much sh** its not even funny. UF did not get ANYWHERE NEAR the amount of beneficiary calls/non-calls that FSU got in that game.

Spurrier even sent tapes to the officials of the late hits and cheap shots on Wuerffel. Bowden blatantly denied ordering his players to get shots in on Wuerffel, but even loyal FSU fans will tell you, that they got away with stuff in that game.

And FSU did not clobber UF in that game. Mentally, and physically, maybe. But they won 24-21. Heck, if it wasn't for Warrick Dunn, FSU would've lost to us in Tallahassee, even with the amount of shots and hits on Wuerffel.

Good point. It wasn't technically a title game, although it became one after the Rose Bowl.
