I don't know much of anything about the elementary schools, but I had a lot of friends graduate from Catholic High, and they generally said it is a pretty good school.

BR has a number of good private schools.

Baton Rouge metro area has some very nice areas and it certainly has areas to avoid. At the risk of stating the obvious, it depends greatly on where in the BR area you can afford to live and where the job is in relation to that area. (In other words if you can afford to be Miles' neighbor, you'll live in a beautiful area.) I only visit any more, but believe that traffic may be a much bigger consideration than the crime rate since you probably wouldn't consider transferring to the area if it meant living in an area of Baton Rouge responsible for the crime rate. I personally like the Southdowns area near campus, but it may be illegal to fly a BAMA flag there.

It gets alot of hate but I enjoy the place. It's definitely changing for the good, many jobs are moving here and the revitalization isn't going unnoticed.

As do all southern cities, we have our crime but I have never threatened or endangered. Public schools are eh (send private) but parks and libraries are very good. The first picture is of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library and the second will be the library they're building downtown soon.

BR is great. Traffic sucks sometimes but you get use to it.

Plenty of good neighborhoods, places to eat and shop.

The crime is overrated. Most of it is black on black crimes in North Baton Rouge

Also we got Boosie Bad Azz

Actually there's really nothing French about Baton Rouge past the name. It's a northern Louisiana town stuck in south Louisiana.

Baton Rouge High is considered a good school. There are paths in the public school system that a child can take and receive a good education - if they're exceptional. Otherwise, there are private schools that are good as well.

I would avoid the suburbs at all costs. They're terrible, there's no culture, everything's a national chain, and getting anywhere is a PIA with the traffic.

As far as the crime goes, there is some - generally concentrated - and no, I don't often lock my doors on my truck or even house, and I live in town (University Gardens/Southdowns) The Perkins Road area near 'the overpass' is a fine neighborhood, close to LSU, filled with local establishments to eat, drink and shop. And it's a quick drive to downtown.

The long and short of Baton Rouge is that it is a city filled with people who hate cities and don't want to live in one. The biggest small town you can have. They want the servicers of a city, but they don't want to pay for them. They want to live in the country, and bitch about the drive in to work. They don't want zoning, but then bitch when someone opens up a gravel pit next to their house. If you want to live in the burbs, stay where you are.
