The guy was coming off multiple elite eights and final four appearance when Kentucky hired him. Howland not so much.

You're stupid sometimes. Howland went to three consecutive Final Fours within the last decade. No one else has done that. No one.

Is he the best coach ever? Probably not. Does he have baggage? Absolutely. Has he coached at an elite level? Absolutely.

Y'all would go and bring in the most boring brand of basketball after UT and AU both hired uptempo guys......

We may not have a roster next year but at least Year 1 will be fun to watch. That helps a lot when you're waiting on year 2 and 3 to arrive.

One thing about Howland that concerned me when he came up for our job and just about everyone else's this year... Hart wouldn't even return his calls and every school has passed on him. I have no clue why other than bigger behind the scenes troubles at UCLA than have been reported but most ADs want nothing to do with him. I don't know enough about his issues to know why ADs are treating him like he has the plague but a lot have given that theoretically he's a good hire who really wants to coach basketball again. Maybe there's something there or maybe ADs are being super careful but I'd love to know why he's been so toxic lately.

Yeah. I wonder if there's some "common knowledge" out there in the industry that's worse or at least more of the same about Howland.

I would honestly love to know because he should've been hired multiple times, especially with a desire to get back in AND no buyout to pay. What I have read indicates he lost control of his teams (let stars really mistreat his own staff and never came to their aid), tended to be lazy (he would cut out early on practices before they were done), likely bought AAU players (even according to UCLA homers tho that was never proven), and was in the midst of slight coaching performance/record based slide when he left.

Still you can't trust everything you read and who knows what's really truth. Hell, a lot of times what's reported is BS and the truth whether it's good or bad remains utterly unknown to the public. It's just strange so many have refused to hear him or passed given the totality of what IS known for sure. Plenty of programs often take risks on coaches who have good records but who might've fricked up or even landed in serious NCAA trouble so why not Howland?

ETA: Further UT hired Bruce Pearl who had no great record and a shady past that pissed off the NCAA so much most thought he'd never land a major job and we're hardly alone in forgiving up and comers. Howland's no up and comer. He's proven. I just think something more is going on with Howland.

No worries, frick it were a Football school anyway, take away the dark ages of the 80's-90's and Mizzou has always been football first. Just returning to form.

If Alden hires Howland you can bet he will have vet the hell out of him after the Haith thing. I think AD's are just being careful. Xcept for Auburn. They had some balls

Summary of the CBS article. I've heard some things about Howland and Anderson that really are only rumors. I don't know shite and it could be anyone.

I could write for CBS

Don't see Marshall heading to CoMo…his comments at the banquet indicates he is staying put. He was pictured with his latest recruit that just signed with the Shockers, Tevin Glass.LINK

Looks like Howland and Anderson…and the meeting sounds to discuss potential contractLINK

A coaching search that’s been unusually secretive for Missouri’s standards might have hit a low point with Friday’s rumor du jour — that Villanova’s Jay Wright had emerged as a candidate and was headed to Columbia on a flight from Philadelphia. A few reporters gathered at Columbia Regional Airport just in case, only to watch a group of middle-aged men exit the plane carrying their golf clubs — and not a basketball coach.

That's what everyone says. Alden interviewed him yesterday allegedly. Tune in Tuesday.

And the fricks golfing in Philly was hilarious.
