Logistics. How do you replace a stadium from the ground up and still play baseball during the construction? Plus, the bid came in $15mm over the estimate. State approval (IHL)is required for that. Your expansion project would be a kiddy pool install compared to the project that we are about pursue.

Sounds like you bit off more than you could chew.

I know it's tickets sold . at 7000+ average attendance and State is only 50% capacity. It seems like something doesn't add up. I know DNF don't seat 15000. I know the DNF have had 15000 crowds but it's not seating 15000. I will tell you that if State host a super regional , DNF might hold 20000 with the season they are having. I will not be included in that 20000.

I would assume the NCAA counted those in their numbers.

why would you not assume that?

If I had seat sure I would. I wish I had a seat but I live in baton rogue and can't make the trip any time I want. I went to sbw about 2 years ago, when we set the new record . I won't be going back during that weekend. On a side note, I give these tiger fans hell down in Baton Rouge.

Surprised you guys are so low considering how well you're playing. What gives?

Good question. This is somewhat embarrassing. That is basically the number we had for good games when I was there 30 years ago. Considering it's the one sport where we have been consistently good for just about the entire time since, we should be doing better than this.

I have heard grumblings about the new stadium concessions making this nowhere near as casual as it used to be. Time was you could go to a game with your student pass, drop 5 bucks on a large drink and a hotdog, and that was your evening. Maybe not the case anymore, and people are just tired of being milked every time they step into an A&M sports event.

A bunch of things.

Previous leadership was in charge of the Olsen Field renovation. They did not have the foresight to build additional permanent seating. They actually removed down the line bleachers (see pic below). We only have 5,400 actual seats and a large portion (~2k) of that is saved for students as general admission. We sold out season tickets this year. So we relay heavily on students & general admission to reach the higher attendance numbers and for big games we sell out easily. But for midweek games we'll dip down as low as the low 3k because the demand drops midweek with classes and people unable to drive in from out of town. That is another thing. A few years back we raised ticket prices which drove off a lot of locals that would support the team. We also closed our left field seating "Aggie Alley" (see pic below) when construction started on the student rec center. this also drove people away.

You can see the bleachers down the RF line. "Aggie Alley" in left field. We've crammed a thousand or so out there before. Normally a couple hundred for big games.

The rec center should be completed well before next season. There are rumors of putting OF seating in and turning some of the berm into actual seats. Nothing firm. Once complete I would expect A&M to climb to 6-7K range.

Edit: Correction about Aggie Alley. We had 2600 for one of the tu games in '99. Over 11000 for that game. Now our ballpark maxes out around 7300. This needs to change. "If you build it, they will come"
