the problem is that you derive joy in seeing your rivals prosper. How can a person be wired that way? As a bama fan, you should not be receiving joy and happiness by seeing your primary archrival do well. It is unnatural.
Firstly, ALL D-1 schools are rivals (in that sense). Secondly, there's a WORLD of difference between pulling for an SEC team against an OOC team, and "receiving joy and happiness" if they win! Lastly, most of us older folks still feel a sense of comradery from the post Civil War years that flows over into the everyday lives of Southerners...just something about being the "stepchildren" of the American fabric.

And again this is why the hate of the Carolina/Clemson rivalry is unmatched. We hate each other.

people place rivalries like Auburn/Bama above Carolina Clemson, and if you do that in the sense of football importance when related to national success...sure, but when it comes to pure hate, its Carolina/Clemson all day.

We argue over basketball, baseball, Football, club sports. We don't want the other to win at anything.

Charles Barkley seems like a pretty nice guy, but I hope that he, and all other Auburn fans, die in horrible boating accidents.

that's not a good comparison at all. A better one would be a kid that lives down the street in the same neighborhood as you. Y'all lie in close proximity but that's about it.

Whatever floats your boat.

We share league revenue, bowl tie-ins, etc... so I'd say our future success is closer tied than just "neighbors".

On top of that I have family and close friends who went to and root for Ole Miss, Alabama, Vandy, etc. on top of the schools being in our conference.

No, not really. I have zero feelings about pulling for or against, say, New Mexico State. They don't even register in my consciousness. Tehm winning or losing does nothign for me. That by definition is not a way I'd describe mny school's biggest rival.

What is the point of wanting a team to win a game then? The only reason you should or would pull FOR a tema to win is because it'd make you happy to see them win. Or, it would bum you out to see them lose. By that very definition you are deriving some form of pleasure by seeing AU win.

this is beyond retarded. This aint the 40s where Southern football teams are ignored by northern media and not given due credit and shot at a national title. You can be as proud as proud can possibly be to be by-Gawd SOUTHERN and still want your biggest rival to lose. One has nothing to do wiht the other. If AU were to lose would you be bummed out that a dang-ol yankee team won? Would it be more palatable were they to lose to another team in the deep south? It's just unbelievably dumb.

After Kentucky I’ll pull for every SEC team even the Vols. We all share a common history and culture looked down on by the rest of the country. SEC dominance is good for us all.

Hey back a couple of years ago I of all people was pulling for the Fighting Sweaty Bruces when the officials ripped them off on that late call vs Virginia.

That was a travesty and they deserved to play for it all.

I don’t mind Aubie winning in b-ball, but I don’t care if they ever win another football game.
