Yeah I hate it for Holman that he has no choice but to think this was a bad decision. Simply no other way to look at it.
I don't see how it's a bad decision.
1. He made more NIL money
2. He got more exposure
3. He had better coaching
4. Access to better facilities
It isn't like Bama is vastly better than LSU this year, they're both on the bubble and it's doubtful that either win anything.

2 and 3 are debatable. I mean it’s the SEC it’s not like Alabama’s guys aren’t getting looks.

I would guess our conference record would be just a tadddd better than it is with Holman in our rotation.

If Holman’s on Bama this year, they’re easily hosting a regional and possibly even a super. We were a Friday night starter away from being pretty good this year. Our RPI is top 12ish even without him.

Holman, Hess, Quick is a top 5 national rotation, even with Hess' inconsistency.

Meh, Yeskie is considered an elite pitching coach in college baseball and of course Bama guys are getting looks, but LSU baseball just brings more eyeballs, even when they're bad.

Possibly but that isn't a known quantity.

It kind of is. Since we’ve seen his results last year and this year against SEC competition, and can take those results and compare to what Bama had in their games this year.
Are you actually going to argue that Holman wouldn’t have added at least a couple wins to Bama’s record this year? Seems pretty odd to say adding a pitcher who has proven over 2 seasons that he is better than all the ones on Bama’s roster “isn’t a known quantity.”

Yet Texas A&M is vastly better without him this year. And LSU is vastly worse with him this year. Texas A&M fans were very excited to see him leave. Very elite indeed.

He could've been injured, he could've regressed, anything is possible.
Really the only argument for him staying is the thought that Alabama may have been better with him but he really made the right decision for himself and his career.

A&M's pitching has taken a nosedive vs bad competition lately while LSU's has been rising.
This narrative that A&M was glad to see him go only started after he left, mostly sour grapes. Yeskie is an elite college pitching coach and I doubt he forgot how to do it.

Not sure making up hypotheticals that didn’t actually happen this season helps your “not known quantity” argument. He could have won the lottery, committed a felony, been hit by an asteroid, etc.
None of that takes away from the fact that Bama would have won more games with him on the team given the season he had last year and this year, barring a hypothetical that didn’t happen.

You do realize that we won more games last year with him, and less this year without him. That’s not a hypothetical. That’s reality.
I also wouldn’t call assuming a person’s performance against the exact same teams but in a different uniform some strange hypothetical when they literally just played for that team and had a very similar performance the prior year.
Really strange for you to walk out on a limb arguing Holman would have been a bad pitcher and not helped Bama win games if he stayed at Bama. Just a really odd take, which is completely opposite of anything based in reality.

In SEC play, Texas A&M has the third lowest/best ERA in the conference this season. LSU has the seventh.lowest ERA. Last year LSU was ranked fifth in ERA. Texas A&M was ranked eighth. In 2022, LSU was ranked sixth while Texas A&M was ranked ninth.
I had never heard of the guy until LSU fans started gloating about stealing him from Texas A&M. The last three years his staffs have ranked seventh, eighth, and ninth in the SEC in ERA.. So if in fact he was elite, it does appear he has forgotten how to do it.

Playing devil's advocate, LSU won more games without him last year and less this year with him.
That isn't really an indication of anything.

I'm not arguing he would've been a bad pitcher, I'm saying Alabama's performance with him on the team isn't a known quantity.
Also, you're looking at it in hindsight and saying he made a bad decision, the kid just did what he thought was best for his career at the time.
Can't bash him for that.

I can't speak for A&M but LSU lost two starters and some top end relievers from last year's team, that's most of the dropoff.
You can't rebuild quality pitching depth in one offseason, portal or not.

You don't follow college baseball very closely then.

Luke Holman was 7-4 last year at Alabama. He is 7-3 this year at LSU. The difference must be the elite coaching he has received this year.

Which you already said wasn’t due to Holman, and you called him “excellent.” However, despite calling him excellent and all the data presented, you’re still going to die on the hill of him being “not a known quantity” if at Bama this season.
I hope you aren’t a lawyer. Or if you are, hope you are a public defender that defends guilty clients.

Win-loss record isn't a very good indication of a pitcher's success, you continue to demonstrate that you aren't really a baseball fan.
