In regards to 1978, only Bama would claim a NC that was split with a team that beat them in their house earlier that year. Maybe this year, if you lose again, Dreamland can start a poll and name you guys NCs. You'd readily claim it, since LSU never actually beats Bama anyway.

Youre just an idiot. That game was a #1 vs #2 matchup and Bama won it. The AP and UPI named Bama the champion. It doesnt get more clear than that.

Don`t waste your breathe with that idiot bwbama. To argue against the 1978 title is beyond retarded when both the AP and the UPI awarded their titles to Alabama that year. What seems completely lost on these frickin morons is that AP voters voted Alabama #1. The Rantards on this board have actually resorted to questioning AP poll which was THE standard bearer poll for over 60 years before the BCS started in 1998.

Subjective term. It was a 10 point loss. USC suffered a worse loss 3 weeks later. The AP and most other polls crowned Bama as NC that year, but you are correct in that the UPI awarded USC the NC. The AP and UPI were the major polls, so I've no issue at all for any team claiming either one.

AT Az St. 20-7. One of Kush's better teams that finished 19th in the Coaches poll.
Polls were split about 50 - 50 for bama and USC.
Football Writers had bama, Sporting News had USC.
Those were typically looked at as quality polls.

I stand corrected hybrid. I trusted bwbama on the UPI title and should know better. Having said that, you can`t isolate that game just like you can`t isolate Bama`s loss to LSU on Nov 5th. USC screwed up by having a bad loss late in the 1978 season while Bama tore it up the rest of that season after the very early season loss to USC. Regardless of the UPI poll, how do you explain Bama winning the AP poll and more importantly than that is why should Alabama fans feel guilty about claiming a national title that the AP (of all polls) awarded Alabama? It`s beyond ridiculous that LSU fans have resorted to questioning AP titles when that is the very standard that everyone uses to determine how many national titles a school has.
