Nice....
my wife doesn't like to fly, so I'm on my own. With one still in College, an aircraft purchase is still a couple of year away.

Ever hung from the straps in an open cockpit? It scared the shite outta me when I was 18, but for some reason I feel compelled to do it again.
Oh yeah....I love it! Got about 25 hours in the Stearman and 20 hours in the Texan. It's great to throw back the canopy on initial approach and have the wind in you face for landing. The sound of the radial engine is "music to the ears" and you can clearly hear the wheels "chirp" on touchdown...

A local Fed Ex guy won one of the races at Reno a few years back in a Texan. When he was buzzing the house, I called the airport and said, "Alert the media! The Japs are attacking!"
It will be a race to get that Flybaby built before I'm too old to fly it. I'm looking forward to that moment at the end of the runway with the motor idling wondering if I should do it or not. I'm sure you know the feeling.
BTW, have you ever flown a Breezy?
I flew one many years ago. I hear the performance is comparable to a warthog.

They always use the T-6 to mimic the Zero in the WWII war movies.....
It's a fun aircraft to fly, but you have to be steady and straight on landing. It will ground loop with the smallest inattention to keeping the aircraft straight down the runway!

So far I'm still "good" on the medicals....
and I only need glasses for reading the charts and runway plates.
But "that day" comes to all of us who fly.....
I'm resolved to it's coming, but I won't like it!

I ground looped a Super Cub once, but didn't get a wing. Crosswinds! It was funny when I started planes where the manual recommended to land in a crab. Wha?

Crosswinds are a lot tougher on tail dragger...
And I hate trying to set up a "crab" on approach into the threshold. It's too damned easy to get into a cross control situation. I just dip a wing into the crosswind on the approach and set one main down, then the other, then reduce power and let the tail settle on the runway when it wants to.

Now that's just a low blow....
The A-10 had at least an additional 30 KTAS over the Breezy!

There is one airplane I still dream about. It was a 1946 Luscombe with mottled white paint that was parked next to the fence at the Headland, AL airport just sitting and rotting. It was owned by the local mortician, and he had a pickled original Continental engine in his attic. He wanted $6k for the package back in 1979. Holy moley! I wish I could have sent myself some money back then.
The bad thing about a Luscombe is the only tail dragger that had the mains closer together is a U2. Very squirrely, but fast for the HP.

I took my commercial in a Mooney 20 (such a tiny rudder) at Apple Valley, CA on a day when the xwind was around 20kts. LOL! The windsock was sticking straight out perpendicular to the runway. When I came in for the precision landing part of the test, I was trying to push the left rudder through the floor, and had 3/4 right aileron and was still drifting to the left. It was supposed to be a hit&git, but the FE said "That's enough. You've got your ticket."
Big airplane crashes will cremate you. Small airplane crashes will just barely kill you.

The Luscombe is a great airplane....
There's always at least one at the Scottsdale Airpark Airshow every year.

Sounds like a 9.5 on the 10 point Landing Sphincter Scale...
