He was better than Shula and Dubose.

Very similar in terms of success and that doesn't take into effect Saban was a more seasoned and longer tenured coach at Bama then he was at Lsu

He never had back-to-back 10+ win seasons at LSU. In his first 5 years in Tuscaloosa, he had 4 straight 10+ win seasons (and is up to 8 straight now).

The Bama advantage over LSU, UGA, and UF does not exist anymore. It used to back in the day when they were willing to spend 10x the amount of money as us and other programs

That playing field is level now

Probably right in terms of budgets, etc, but how do you explain that - with this level playing field - Bama has a considerably better SEC record over last 5 years than those other teams, has won 3 of the last 4 SEC championships, etc?

which is my point, if you made saban why didn't you make the previous coaches???

You can't fix terrible. DuBose never should have been a head football coach. Fran was a good coach but he left when the going got tough. Shula was young and hardly ready for a big time coaching job.

Had Franchione stayed and had Alabama never got hit with sanctions, he would have won a national championship. That '02 team was playing amazing football in October and November. Had Fran not deliberately blown the game against Auburn, they would have finished 11-2 with a Top 5 AP ranking.

The proof is in the record.

It's what we do.

No

It is easier to win at Bama than most other schools but he was already an elite coach.

Lets face it. Saban would make any SEC school elite except for Vandy and Kentucky.

Go back and watch the game. Saban out maneuvered Dabo all night. Including the onside kick that essentially won the game for Alabama

You are wrong, Mr. Conspiracy Theory.

And to the other poster that said the playing field is level now...that makes my OP all the more valid in that 4 out of the past 7 laughs at your level playing field.

what did Bama do for the coach Shula or Price or Franchoni (sp?) or Dubose? Get real if bama made coaches who they are, the previous 4 would have been great too. Saban was just getting started at LSU and would have probably done the same there that he has at Bama if he wouldn't have left

Price never coached a game here, so we'll never know. All Shula did was win 10 games in 2005 with crushing sanctions and probation crippling the program. Dubose won an SEC Title. Fran won the West in 2002 and would have played for the SEC Title if not for said sanctions. Bottom line is a bunch of crap coaches had seasons at Bama that would have been the benchmark highpoint in a lot of programs even under sanctions, reduced scholarships, etc.

Give us actual good coaches like Bryant, Stallings and Saban? Just watch the trophies stack up.

No.

Take a look at Gene Stallings's record before he came to Alabama. He had recorded only one or two winning seasons before Alabama hired him in 1990.

He went 70-16-1 in seven seasons.

LSU gave Saban everything he asked, Bama later did the same at a higher ante. Both programs were humble and desperate to win.

Texas has the deepest pockets in College Football. They must not have been humble and desperate enough to give him everthing he wanted.

Texas has a minute fraction of the history that they think they have. Money obviously can't buy you everything.

Nick Saban put LSU on the map. Then, put Alabama back on the map.

I'm not sure why both schools don't just thank the man. He's the exceptional coach.

The man has been worth every penny that Bama has paid him, and then some. I remember the media being aghast at what we paid in 2007 to get him. It has been one of the best ROIs the school has ever made.

I'm sure that the sane LSU folks feel likewise about his time in BR.
