Bell is familiar with UA, having joined the school's Mechanical Engineering faculty in 1986 and teaching for more than a decade before rising to department head.

Calls Alabama a "national flagship university"

“Alabama is just a great national flagship university. There are so many different shining facets,” Bell said.

The guy was a REC plant at LSU, like Dave Hart at Tennessee. He did his job (bankrupting LSU) now he's coming home...president'
s position for a job well done!

Yeah, no offense to Bama (or LSU), but isn't LSU in horrible financial straits right now? Is that due to university financial mismanagement or is it incompetence at the state level?

If approved by the full board, Bell will be the school's fourth leader since 2012.

The funding issue was at the state level--not the university. The Legislature has found the money so it doesn't have to cut LSU's funding. And this is a step up position-wise. Congrats and I hope he does a great job.

Robert Witt (2003–2012) Stepped down to become chancellor of the University of Alabama System, as of March 5, 2012.

Guy Bailey (2012) October 31, 2012, Bailey announced his stepping down as president of the University, to focus on his wife's healthcare needs.

Judy Bonner (2012–present) I sent a letter to Chancellor Witt indicating my plans to leave the presidency of The University of Alabama no later than the end of September 2015. I would like to return to my first love, which is teaching and working more directly with students. In order to do so, I will take a year’s sabbatical to prepare to return to the classroom in the Fall of 2016.
