Bama fans, what is the true expectation for DeBoer?

Is the expectation that he has to maintain the same level of constant championship contention that Saban did?

Or is there an internal admission that nobody’s going to replicate that and that DeBoer’s the best guy to keep the program at a very high level and maybe win a title or two along the way?

Genuinely curious. What would make him a failure?

Two, two loss seasons is a failure

No one expects Saban 2.0. 10 wins a year and beating AU and UT more often than not will satisfy the vast majority. Win a title and he will get a statue.

He may take a year to get his feet under him. The SEC is a different animal and everyone will be taking their shots.

I guess it has to do with if he can pull guys back from the portal like Nate did. It is Alabama…so top 12? Sound reasonable?

I just want to be top 3 in the "west," and competitive for the national title every year. To start.

I could accept 9-10 wins regular season, and better than not post-season. 7-8 win seasons i would be very impatient about.

Be innovative ( he is) and just keep us in the hunt… nobody is maintaining Sabans run… going to 12 team playoffs makes it easier on a lot of teams/coaches

LOL

I mean, yeah, eventually that might be the case. I think it's a lot to ask your fanbase, especially the "extended" portion, to get to that reality overnight.

This is what I think he’ll most likely do and I feel like it’s a realistic expectation.

Just wasn’t sure where the fanbase’s headspace was at in the aftermath of watching the greatest 16-year run in the history of the sport

in the next 5 years I'd be fine with 3-4 10+ win seasons, 2+ trips to the playoffs, 1-2 conference championships, and maybe a natty

First year? Nothing. He can do whatever.
Second year? We could be bowl eligible but I'm sure we'll be beyond that.
Third year? In the running for an SEC championship, maybe the playoffs ...

After that, who knows?

No Bama fan expects this guy to be Nick Saban. Why do non-Bama fans expect him to be Saban? To me, that's really weird.

I’d tone down those expectations if I were you.

As other fans on here are quick to point out, Saban "only" won one title in the last 6 seasons, and Alabama fans were more than satisfied. Judging us by our worst fans is like judging LSU or Auburn based on Willy T, Chex, etc.

At some point, younger fans will become impatient for titles of their own generation if DeBoer can't produce them. Older fans like myself, however, have had our fill and will be just fine for the foreseeable future.
