Just my two cents:

Blake
Pros
Poised in the pocket
Senses pressure well and moves instinctively
Crisp and accurate on short and intermediate throws
Commands the team well
Great running ability
Seems to have the trust and respect of his teammates
Has made leaps and bounds from last season and even A-Day this year
Cons
Hasn't thrown very many passes down-field
Sometimes locks onto his receivers
Has thrown a few passes at his receiver's feet when they were wide-open
It's unknown how he'll react to adversity
Decision-making has been poor in the past
He ran one play and the entire team ran another play in at the goal line yesterday, resulting in a fumble

Jake
Pros
Huge arm
Runs well for a big guy
Seems like he is willing to be coached
Mostly goes through his progressions well
Cons
Has trouble getting the play in from the sideline
Sometimes locks onto his receiver
Overthrew easy routes a couple of times
Seemed to get the ball out slower on bubble screens
Took a sack instead of throwing the ball away, costing the team a field goal
Underthrew a couple of passes and then overthrew a couple
It's unknown how the team feels about him

All in all, I'd say that Coker wasn't overhyped on physical talent, but he's struggled mentally to grasp the offense, which is surprising. He's in his own head too much. Coker did seem to improve as the game went along yesterday.

Blake seems comfortable, but we've not seem him tested yet. It will be interesting to see what happens if he's asked to air it out a bit more.

Sims is more comfortable, Coker has way more upside. Coker did no worse than Sims did in his first game, considering Coker threw the ball down the field more and had to deal with a wet football on some throws. Plus he had a TD and no INTs, Sims first start he had no TDs and an INT.

Sims is the guy right now. He's the leader. The team responds to him. His athleticism gives us something we haven't had under Saban. He's poised. He's making the throws he's asked to. He's got a hefty lead in the battle right now.

Saban almost half implied we may go 2QB for longer than expected, but I just can't believe that until I see it.

Sims. anyone who watched can't argue any
Other way. Coker may have a better upside and better arm, but we have to win now and sims is more comfortable and flat out better. Not a bad thing to have 2 qbs who can play especially when they both can run/get injured. See auburn, marshall could get hurt and they might possibly be better... Probably not but they wouldn't miss much, Johnson is going to be really good!

We'll know so much about Sims after Florida.. unless the Bama running game takes over that game.

My opinion is that you and your buds know nothing about football.

Blake Sims is Black Driskel- great accuracy, high completion %, really athletic, good runner, but no real touch on the deep ball.

he doesn't have a deep ball ...

Sims definitely looks better overall right now. However, he still needs to answer 2 question marks before he can be trusted as the starter:

1. Can he pass the ball downfield with accuracy and good decision making? I have no idea and I sense the coaches don't think he can, considering the playcalling with him in the game.

2. Does he know the playbook? He called the wrong play twice against WVU and another time on the goal line against FAU resulting in a turnover. If you can't be trusted to run the play the coaches call, you can't be the starting QB. Period.

Coker:
It's obvious he has more overall talent and upside. I feel like he would struggle more initially than Sims would, but by the second half of the season would be the better QB if given starting experience early on. If his accuracy issues continue and he can't get the ball out more quickly he will be ineffective as well though.

To sum it up....not feeling great about either.

imo, we just don't know that much ... yeah, two live games are two live games, but dinking and dunking against lsu ain't gonna work ... and we can't hope tamu/auburn's defense suck and we can control the clock and all that ... coker was 9/16 or so in his game, but his passes were considerably longer and more vertical ... sims has proven he can run a bit, but i'm not sure he's a real dual-threat qb ... i think the coach's and a large portion of the fans are still waiting on coker, and hope he gets some serious snaps this saturday ... but if sims is the guy, he's serviceable and has proven he can at least ... manage ... the game ...

Blake Sims has established himself as the one to beat at this point. The coaches know this, but they also know that we haven't seen Sims run that offense against an elite defense yet. Coker brings the booming arm, but he's been slow to show comfort in the driver's seat.

Unless Blake Sims really lays an egg against USM, he's sure to be the starter going into the Florida game. The coaches continue to work hard with Coker because we may need him as the weeks go on. What happens if Florida shuts us down offensively, and then he continues to struggle in the next game against Ole Miss? That's the scenario where Coker could take over (and, of course, injury).

If we had the Bama 2011 defense, we might not need the QB to win any games. So far this year, I don't think our defense looks like they can carry the offense in big games.

Edited.

I misunderstood the post. I thought you were saying this thread was trolling the gumps.

Still think most of you gleeful barners don't have a clue about how good Coker might become...but so far, he's a long way from the Joe Montana that a lot of Bama fans were proclaiming this summer.

Good old Jimbo. I'd rather he "troll" some of our fans in some weird way, than beat us on the field and deny us a national chamoionship. But that's just me.

Sims is better running the offense and is much more accurate on the short passes. He's also more elusive when he runs. I hope he gets to work on the deep ball some next week. The only area I can see where Coker is clearly better is arm strength.

Should be Sims' job to lose.
