The Albert Means thing is the one time Alabama got in trouble for cheating. We did cheat. We got caught. We deserved to be punished. I don't blame fulmer for it, because what we did was wrong(however I am pissed that tennessee was bidding for Means too and fat frick fulmer was covering his fat arse by being a "secret witness").

The textbook thing was not cheating. It was athletes that took advantage of the flawed distribution system. The NCAA investigated it. No money was earned from the books and they were all returned at the end of the year.

We've had 5 major infractions. It wasn't the one time.

Auburn has 7.

Arkansas 4.

LSU 2

Tenn 2

etc etc etc

We have over 40 as a conference. Other conferences have similar numbers but we're near the top. Auburn is one of the best but we're pretty good too... a little too good to be pointing fingers.

No different than the coach yall had to fire for cheating last yr or what went on with LSU basketball program. Besides most of these threads are being started by LSU fans from what I have seen

They are butt hurt. They have finally gotten by Saban and Bama to only have their hopes and dreams crushed by little ole AU.

I'm not going to justify major infractions. We've had 5. Hopefully they're cleaner in the future. Much of the NCAA is dirty but I'm not going to justify my school breaking rules or not having institutional control. I'm glad they've improved the way they conduct business.

UA does have a poor record of compliance, particularly in the past twenty years, but if we're going to compare it to just AU, the term "major" is relative.

Of those five major infractions reviewed by the NCAA COI, only three warranted any sanctions at all. There was no action taken by the NCAA on the other two. Of AU's seven, not only have all of them resulted in probation, scholarship losses, television bans, bowl bans, etc., but every single one of them has involved the coaching staff (employees of the university) providing improper benefits.

To me, that makes it appear as though, while UA may have corrupt influences, at AU it's institutional.

Neither record is anything to be proud of, but 3 probations < 7 probations. JMHO....

Textbooks or 200,000 for a player?

This is fricking gold.

Hahaha...

The shite started hitting the fan in 1991.

Don't let those pesky little facts get in a way of a completely wrong assumption though.

Tard.

This is the first time in my life ive seen ANY bama fan make a rational thought regarding Alabama and cheating.

What I do get: The textbook BS was extremely minor

What I dont get: Most bama fans discounting the fact that the program was already on probation when faced with the textbook BS.

If you are on probation (period) you must remain "squeaky clean". If you dont you should be hammered. Apparently the NCAA doesnt take its probation seriously. It is what it is.

What *I* don't understand is the "pot-kettle" analogy in this case, where it's far more appropriate to simply say that it takes one to know one.

I agree, however I'm willing to bet that for every time a school gets caught there are quite a few times they didn't get caught. I'm not going to shake a finger at another SEC because our track record isn't something to be proud of. The whole conference and most of the NCAA is different shades of dodgy.

over textbooks... it was all one blanket punishment for some textbooks. so yeah, sorry if you were tryin to make us look 10x worse than we are.

but yeah, bama is gonna call auburn cheaters... because we benefit from free text books (not making money off of them mind you)... and they spend 200k on a QB.

i wonder how many athletes would come to our school JUST because of some.... text books.

I'm confused I thought you said you had absolutely no tolerance for cheating? Oh unless it is Crimson and white....Hypocracy anyone?...LOL priceless.... you sir have no credibility. Its not as if you really had any to begin with, but just saying

This is inaccurate.

The 1980 football probation was merely an extention of the existing probationary period by one year, and was the result of actions by a single individual booster, uncovered and reported to the NCAA by the AU coaching staff.

The 2004 basketball probation was due to the NCAA determining that an AAU basketball (Mark Komara) was somehow a "representative of AU interests".

Im guessing the OP is comparing Bama's past transgressions to the current situation in Auburn........meaning both schools cheat quite a bit.

Fair or not that will be how many view both schools although I certainly see what you are saying.
