That's the only logical thing i can think of
Brings in advertising money

The game this weekend will correct this anyways, might as well profit as much as you can

Eta: apparent how bama sits above 8 undefeated teams and florida

Eta2: skip bayless:

Sure. ESPN is in the business of making money for CBS.

Yeah, I'm sure their main motivation was to drive up ratings and advertising costs for a game on CBS

In the OP's defense (I by no means believe Bama is ranked 4th for ratings reasons), I'm pretty sure ESPN didn't put Bama at 4. The committee did.

While I don't think the OP is right, ESPN has a shitload of programming featuring this matchup.

Yeah wtf is tigerdrew talking about?

Honestly it wouldnt surprise me too much. It's just week 1 of their rankings. Since they dont mean a damn thing might as well stir up some drama and at the same time make this wekeends game even more prominent than it already was.

OP said it was to bring in more advertising money. No one on the committee is doing anything to make CBS more money. ESPN isn't trying to get more advertising for their Gameday telecast because it would be the same if they were at a Div. II school this week. Its the most watched show on Saturday morning no matter where they are. It's a silly thread.

You actually have no way of knowing that. It's probably more of a broader approach of stiring up exciting and talking points about the playoff itself than specifically trying to increase CBS's bottom line. But the fact that the committee might have had some ulterior motives in their first ranking that means nothing is not at all far-fetched.

Plus just to hurt LSU right. Cuz' you know it would've been a lot better for LSU to beat the #9 team in the country instead of the #4. That daggum REC always a workin' to hurt everyone else in the conference just to help Bama.

I can get on board with wanting to stir the pot and make people talk about the playoffs. However, it has nothing to do with advertising.

I don't get why people are so butt hurt that Bama is #4. There is only going to be one SEC in the top 4 after this weekend.

It could be a regular top 5 matchup or...

"Oh look! 2 playoff teams go at it this weekend!"
