When he went out in 2013 I really felt like it would be death nail to a fragile defense and an already thin secondary. I am hoping we step up similar in 2015.

Absolutely & we entered year with only 5 guys that met that criteria. We have lost 2 already.

I don't think enough pundits are paying attention to the injuries on AU's defense

Lose best overall player & top pass rusher for game & half (Lawson)
Lose starting safety & man in charge of the calls for secondary for game & quarter (Matthews)
Lose starting nickel CB who also plays outside CB & safety & has numerous starts under his belt (Holsey)
Lose start SAM LB & one of the 2 best LBs on the team for game (Garrett)
Starting NG gets banged up ankle & misses some series (Russell)
Top tackler & MLB with 2 years of starting experience gets banged up & misses numerous series (McKinzy)
Lose starting CB & former All Big Ten player for game to targeting call (Countess)

The Jax St game is still unacceptable but you compare to what our defense looked like in 1st half against UL & since there is a huge difference. Part of winning championships is avoiding the injury bug & AU has not done that. Add in a QB who is struggling to read defenses & you get that abomination on Saturday

All of this is quite accurate. Obviously the struggles from JJ would of set us back regardless of injuries, but all these players getting hurt was the icing on the cake. We already had major depth concerns on Defense coming into the season.

This really sucks for Holsey. I hate it for the kid.

Malzahn quote from Al.com

quote:

Injury has been "tough" on Holsey. "He's struggling right now." Malzahn does not believe Holsey is one of the players who has loss of value insurance.

I'm pretty sure there are also a few guys on the offensive side of the ball who have been in and out. Roc went out of the Louisville game, and then 2-3 plays later Jovon does the same thing. Duke also went out for a few plays in the JSU game after looking to be injured. At this point I'm surprised we still have enough players left to field a team.

Oh definitely I was just focusing on defense as we had very little depth there before the season.

Avery Young
Roc Thomas
Duke Williams
Jovon Robinson
Kerryon Johnson

all have missed time. basically if you are a 5* player not named Adams or Cowart you have been injured
