AU's fans, sincerely sorry to hear about this injury, rivalry aside, kids are kids.

But who takes his place?

He didn't play against Louisville and only played like 3 plays Saturday and got hurt.

Countess, Jones, and Irvin will start at CB.

None.

Countess got ejected before halftime.

You're referring to Countess, but I didn't think he had to sit out anymore.

We haven't seen much of Countess. Mainly because teams haven't thrown at him much because they've been picking on the freshmen we have. Plus he was out most of the last game due to a targeting penalty.

No one is. Countess was ejected in the first half of the JSU game.

Since AU only plays three more passing teams (OM, MSU, A&M), it is not as critical as some other positions.

Solid coverage guy but struggled making tackles in open field against UL. Really glad he is here tho because with Holsey down now & Matthews being fragile we would be down to 2 starters with any kind of meaningful snaps in the secondary without him. At least now we still have 2 starting CBs who have played in big games

It is huge to have experience in your back 4/5. Blown assignments are worse than almost anything else.

Hosley is a pretty big loss for us. He is a older guy that knows the game and could of played cornerback, nickle corner, and safety for us. Hate it for him cus he is a good guy that loves the game.

Hate to see any kid have an injury. They put a lot of time getting ready for the season.

Absolutely & we entered year with only 5 guys that met that criteria. We have lost 2 already.

I don't think enough pundits are paying attention to the injuries on AU's defense

Lose best overall player & top pass rusher for game & half (Lawson)
Lose starting safety & man in charge of the calls for secondary for game & quarter (Matthews)
Lose starting nickel CB who also plays outside CB & safety & has numerous starts under his belt (Holsey)
Lose start SAM LB & one of the 2 best LBs on the team for game (Garrett)
Starting NG gets banged up ankle & misses some series (Russell)
Top tackler & MLB with 2 years of starting experience gets banged up & misses numerous series (McKinzy)
Lose starting CB & former All Big Ten player for game to targeting call (Countess)

The Jax St game is still unacceptable but you compare to what our defense looked like in 1st half against UL & since there is a huge difference. Part of winning championships is avoiding the injury bug & AU has not done that. Add in a QB who is struggling to read defenses & you get that abomination on Saturday

Hosley is class all around. When Countess was looking to transfer Hosley was his biggest recruiter. He essentially came in and took Hosley's "starting" job, but in our scheme both were going to play a ton of minutes.

Yeah, early season, season ending injuries are just brutal to see and hear about. Hope he can fully recover and come back next year.
