I don't find these allegations particularly surprising, and it's not because "LOLZ AUBURN IZ CHEATERS", but because I imagine this kind of thing goes on an awful lot. And we all know it goes on an awful lot.
Something eventually has to give. The NCAA buries its head in the sand and continues to insist on not compromising the integrity of amateur athletics, and yet nothing about this sport is amateur except the fact that the players aren't directly paid for their services (outside of scholarship money). It's a multi-billion dollar industry that the NCAA is more than happy to get its slice of, but God forbid you sell a jersey with a player's name on it -- that's improper!
I'm honestly not sure what the solution is. The two extremes, of course, would be to completely privatize college athletics or revert to a style of intramural play. Neither are likely to happen, obviously.

When all else fails, the appropriate response is to attack the individual's high post count, as though the person with a low post count is spending their time curing cancer or fighting terrorism instead of just playing video games.

Seriously though, you take anybody on this site that posts like 3-4 times a day and then posts a hell of a lot on football weekends in the fall when they aren't at the games and see how many posts that is over 5-6 years. shite adds up.

I honestly can't fathom this kind of thing happening at UGA. Not because I think we try not to/don't want to. But between the culture being as pro-academia, anti-athletic investment as it is (between a legacy of President frickstick Adams and the Jan Kemp scandal) and the UGAPD having the very most puckered of buttholes at all times, I just can't see us getting away with too much.

Maybe not to the extent of what's alleged in the article, but I'm referring more to "nudging" grades in the right direction to protect eligibility, palming people relatively small amounts of cash, etc.
