Well, Bruce you are in football country and both basketball teams are kind of sucky so no one really cares. Sidewalk fans don't care bout no basketball, Bruce (in Alabama).

FTFY Bruce.

Sweep Bama next year when Sexton & Petty are on the roster along with a couple of transfers and Key & Ingram being a year more developed and then we'll all be impressed.

It should be minimized because we don't have anyone that knows how to shoot or handle the ball.

That's a lot that has to happen for your team to be relevant. Good luck with that

Seems like he is trying to sell college basketball in the state as a whole to the citizens and newspapers. I get very little basketball content from local news outlets and auburn and bama aren't good enough to get much national coverage. He has a point.

The schools have invested money in coaches and facilities. The product is improving. It would be nice if the local media treated it as a major sport.

When the football team and coach don't show up to collect the iron bowl trophy, which should be awarded after the game on the field, you know no one cares

The only way to change that is to get good.

That is part of the equation, but media attention to hype the games and over analyze the results would draw additional attention from casual sports fans as well.

Yeah I don't have a problem with the quote. He ought to just say the media doesn't promote basketball enough in this state constantly.

I remember getting sent an AL.com video at Halloween where the people screamed in horror about being offered free basketball tickets. It was lame, but the point is they shite on basketball in this state.

The casual fan isn't going to care about 2 shitty basketball teams no matter how much the media hypes it up.

I remember back in 2003-2006 when I thought I really cared that Alabama was sweeping Auburn in basketball every year and taking the majority of wins in baseball. It was really anything just to take my attention away from realizing how dominant Auburn was in football at the time.

bullshite. Have bama fans (or Auburn fans) read a bunch of articles about the game in the lead up and then a bunch about how they get swept by their rival. They will subconsciously start caring more and pay more attention because they don't like losing to each other.

See. Bamaelco has already started and it just took Bruce complaining to get some attention brought to the matter.

I like that Bruce is fighting to make basketball a bigger deal in the state and conference.

He knows that having Alabama and Auburn good and excited at the same time only helps his program (and visa versa).

Alabama hasn't gotten out of the (traditional) first round of the NCAA tournament in 10 years. Auburn hasn't been to the NCAA tournament in 13.
