The fact they tried to keep him means they had to bring something to the table to offer him. They're professionals and know how this game is played. A school meeting with a coach to try and convince him to stay and not take the same job at a conference rival is not going to go into the meeting with nothing more than a "pretty please" in their pocket. Anyone thinking LSU didn't offer him something tangible to stay is a damn fool.

With Muschamp and Smart taking HC jobs, Auburn just made Steele the 2nd highest paid DC in college football behind only John Chavis. Congrats
