I agree that any movement won't come about until expansion to 16, but, depending on where the next two teams come from I'd say move both Alabama AND Auburn to the East. The "permanent opponent" situation is due to Auburn/Georgia continuing the Cocktail party and Alabama/TN insisting to play so with those 4 teams in the same division we can quit the other forced "rivalries" and go to 6/2 or hopefully 6/3 so teams can play other teams in the conference more often then under the current scenario.

I realize that since I am an LSU fan I will be accused of wanting this to better LSU's chances of winning the West; I can't deny that would be a benefit but I also think it's ridiculous how infrequently I get to see LSU play other SEC East teams, other than FLA.

never happen... the SEC office is gonna be forced to start searching for a new member to replace OM. Conference realignment will take a back seat most likely... i could be wrong though they could make the swap with missouri and add someone like South Alabama University to replace ole miss... that would complete the east

So you think Auburn is willing to give up the Iron Bowl to move to the East.

Why is it Auburn's issue to 'give up' on the Iron Bowl?

Alabama is the team that would have to choose between Auburn and Tennessee.

Give Auburn -Alabama as their permanent West team. Tennessee lost the right because they've lost like 9 in a row in the series.

Give Tennessee -LSU, they've been bitching about their series against Florida and trying to get out of that for years

Give Florida -Missouri because of the natural Yankees of the SEC rivalry

If you had 16 teams in the conference you couldn't play 6 division games. There would be 7 teams in your division besides your team. With the current amount of SEC games it would be more like 7/1 or if the coach's besides Coach Saban could be persuaded to add another SEC game then 7/2.

They can keep the Iron Bowl.
Some years it might be a non conference game. Still be the last game of the year.
Auburn Go East young man
Missouri Go West young man

Bama keeps TSIO

Auburn would get Arky for their permanent West team as Mizzou-Arky would already play each other as West Division teams.

Mizzou would get UGA for their permanent team since they would now be playing Auburn as an divisional rival.

Problem solved

SEC WON'T split same state schools!!

I have seen a few say this on the rant. But where is the rationale behind this comment or any facts. I have never seen the SEC say they won't split schools in same state. And when talking divisions, the "know" guys in the media never discuss it. It's always about DSOR & TSIO & IB versus no cross rivalries. UT/Vandy is not mentioned ever.

Think about it. The same-state schools have played more & have more on the line with their sports rivalry than their cross-div. rival.
& if somebody says to split TN/Vandy or Ala./Aub., ask them why don't they split Miss./MSU? Same argument about not splitting them applies to the other 4.

TN/Vandy
TN 73
Vandy 31
tie 5
109

TSIO
TN 38
Ala. 53
tie 7
total 99 (2005 Ala. win vacated)

Vandy/Miss.
Vandy 38
Miss. 50
tie 2
total 90

Iron Bowl
Ala. 45
vandy 35
tie 1
total 81

MSU/Kentucky
MSU 22
KY 22
total 44

Miss./MSU
Miss. 63
MSU 44
tie 6
total 113

SEC won't realign until we take on two more schools and at that point we will see if Auburn will belong in the East. If, now that Stoops is gone, Oklahoma comes on board Auburn will certainly be moved to the East and then I think Alabama would be next on the list to move over if we take two from out west.

SEC going to 16 teams WILL NOT put 8 in each division.....it'll be 4X4 pods.

The "permanent opponent" situation is due to Auburn/Georgia continuing the Cocktail party

Huh?
Ga./Aub. = Deep South's Oldest Rivaly
Ga./Fl. = World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party

Because Auburn moving puts this decision on the table. So naturally people wonder which rivalry they want to see ended.

& they wouldn't have to make that decision if it WEREN'T due to Auburn.

& TN won 10 between 1995-2006 (Ala. won 2002 & 2005 (but had to vacate it....so wouldn't that be 11?))

They'ld have to do 4X4 pods because there's a better scheduling opportunity with that than 7 div. games + ???

8 games (7 div. + 1 cross) = 8 years to see the other side just once
9 games (7 div. + 2 cross) = 4 years
9 games (7 div. + 1 cd rival + 1 cross) = 7 years
10 games (7 div. + 3 cross) = 3 years
10 games (7 div. + 1 cd rival + 2 cross) = 4 years
10 games (7 div. + 2 cd rival + 1 cross) = 7 years

WHY would you want to play a conf. team in a non-conf. game? That just takes up an open slot for you to play ANYBODY!
