It's symbiosis.

Bama props up the rivalry in order to spite/downplay their real rivals (Auburn here and IRL,+ LSU here). Tennessee is the definition of harmless so it's all good with zero tradeoff for them to do so.

Tennessee is just thrilled to be kept relevant through association with Alabama, so they're more than eager to go along with it.

Ask yourself, if they really hated each other, would they ever be so altruistic?

no one. get rid of the cross division perma-opponents and have everyone play each other.

If you move Bama to the East and Georgia to the west, everything works much better.

Preserves Bama Tennessee. Aub becomes Permanent

Preserves Ga Auburn. Make Fla Permanent.

LSU can pick up Tenn or SC as new Permanent.

I second this. Posting it here wastes time. Go tell your AD to bring it up at next meeting

I know Bama is your super bowl every year, I am sorry the feeling is not mutual. Tennessee is our biggest rival.

If Gumps and Hillfolk want to continue to pretend the nation cares about their game every year and continue playing it, they can play each other as their annual OOC game much like UF and FSU do. The loser doesn't get an SEC win.

I can handle all the asterisks. I'm not sure about the Gumps and the Hillfolk though. I'd be happy to make time to explain it annually though.

a better solution to the permanent rival thing is to have the East and West division overlap a bit.

move Auburn to the East and Tennessee to the west.

-Alabama and Auburn are permanent cross division rivals.
-Bama and Tennessee play every year
-Auburn and UGA play every year
-Tennessee can pick up IGA as their cross division rival.

We need to go 16 teams before we can fix the wonky geography of divisions for some teams. whatever we do it would not be equal.

I would rather go 9 game schedule tho.

No. That's not necessary.

Swap Auburn and Mizzou.

Bama and UT play each other OOC every year unless it's their year to play in the SEC schedule.

Done.

UF basically has to do this with a tough opponent every year. You guys can do it too.

What's the problem?

TSIO is here to stay. It isn't going anywhere. Both Alabama and Tennessee will not let TSIO go away and that's the way it should be and the way it will be. TSIO FOREVER!!

that's dumb. every time we play Tennessee it has been a conference game. why change it to exhibition?

that is a big12 solution. the SEC is above that crap.
