Even though the bowl is in-state, that's still pretty damn impressive.

Nobody wants to be 6-6 and looking at the bottom tier of SEC bowls, but once AU ended up there I don't think there's a better place they could have landed.

For starters, it is going to cost a whole lot less for AU to play a game in Birmingham than it would have to play in Memphis, Shreveport, or Houston so they may make a little money.

Far more importantly, Birmingham's no more than 3 hours away from any point in Alabama and general admission tickets for this game are $30 with reserved for $50. A family of four can attend this game for less than a decent hotel would have cost them at any of the other low tier bowls. Lots of Auburn fans that could have never afforded to see their team play now have a chance to see them in a bowl against a quality opponent. If you gotta be 6-6, that's not a bad way to finish out the year.

I am sure the building is still there but is the the Tide n Tiger still open? Back in the day did it only open on gamedays?

Waaaaaaayyyyyy back in the day I seem recall it used to be open as a full time bar-lunch spot and got a regular crowd.....its probably long gone by now...not sure....the last game I saw at Legion Field was a Bama-Southern Miss in 2000...we lost 21-0.

Legion looked pretty rough then.....and true to form, the car was broken into....

Edit ; Apparently its still going strong

We'd beat your arse too, Aggie.
