someone is after Auburn

explain? I don't see it. The article in WSJ was pointless, as was the ticket article, but it's filling print/online space with something that has some interest to some people. Hardly being "after" AU. I doubt the WSJ or NYT would devote resources to going "after" AU.

Not the papers themselves, although sometimes it easier, when you have an easy target in relation to past articles. However they have employed two writers that do have some sort grudge against Auburn for some unknown reason, similar to Travis with Bama

Aubie sells tickets to boosters. Boosters sell them second market for profit. Gives money to athletes under the table.

I was reading between the lines, but that's the gist of it right?

Sounds like a plan to me.

I don't think Travis has much of a grudge with Bama. Bama fans are just too dumb to realize he's trolling them. And he's not even that good of a troll, which just further illustrates how dumb a lot of our fans are.

It's funny how Auburn fans think the WSJ is great when they are attacking Bama

I'd enjoy hearing your thoughts on this article. Apparently the Athletic Department flexed its muscle to protect the sham program used to funnel illiterate college grads out into the world

A fan of an SEC team ridiculing another SEC team about football players taking easy majors.

Irony is funny indeed.

Just thought it was interesting that the same guy that wrote the article yesterday, also wrote this article....

MY GUESS: Someone in the athletic department is feeding him information. Nothing to really see here, but it does fill up news print and fires up BOL and ATPB stuff...

Its just UseyPhan, but I guess not every school can have such quality majors with final exams consisting of questions like, "How many points is a three pointer worth" or "How many quarters are in a game"

He's a lifelong Tennessee fan and he's got an inflated opinion of his on intellect and relevance. He absolutely has a dislike of Bama, but he does play it up bigger at times for page views and radio calls.

And Aubie, who has more time in the slammer than anybody in the SEC claims article is BS, innuendo, fiction, blah blah when they good and dam well it happened but it's just somebody grinding an axe but, but, anything remotely accusing Bama, hey, where's the smoke there's fire and you Bammers just need to admit you are dirty.
Auburn is, was and always will be the nastiest program in America. They have to be or they'd be Ole Miss. They don't get in more trouble than they do because frankly, nobody cares.

And I'm sure you all still think Cam and Bo didn't get paid but they would pay Eric friggin Ramsey

Most Tinfoil Auburn fans believe this is the problem. LINK

Obviously there is no proof, but if a journalism school turns out 100 graduates for 20 years that is 2000 working journalist. Of those 2000 being from an SEC school probably means half of them have a passion for SEC football. Of that half I would guess 30% share your moronic belief that Auburn is somehow dirtier than a school than once got caught paying a subpar defensive tackle 250k to sign. Which seems a bit different than helping a player out who came and asked for the help. But hey, cheat'ns, cheat'n.

So 300 working journalist with a passion for college football who have a moronic belief that one college is significantly dirtier than the other. What happens?

Each of those 300 journalist has say 10 networked colleagues in the journalism industry. All of the 3000 are struggling to make a living in a social media world so you have a tip on something as shocking as the linked piece or the recent piece about Auburn having a major that athletes are using to help them stay eligible??? (It is shocking to think a major college would have a program track that is easier for some athletes, ground breaking journalism for sure. No other school would do such a thing. After this journalist collects their awards from this piece I fully expect them to follow up with an article pealing back the onion on the possibility that middle school girls gossip.)

So if you have some Alabama connections as a journalist and have a lead on a story like this it isn't hard to imagine floating the story to a colleague hoping for quid pro quo in the future. An article like this is easy click bait in a media culture that is more about the number of clicks and less about the content of the piece.

Of course, that is only for tinfoil Auburn fans.

I don't see anything shady here by Auburn. To me it's just a "let's all laugh at Auburn" piece, and I don't know why the WSJ felt a need to run it. Why do they care?

It is all very comical, though, and I appreciate the OP for brightening my day with it. I had never seen this article. It really is comical that Auburn wasn't able to sell out their season tickets...even with the return of the beloved Gus Malzahn. But this wasn't surprising to me; I bought four Auburn season tickets myself in 2009. Right off their website...no donation, no waiting list. The fact that Auburn, sitting there at 5-1, still had large numbers of Georgia and Alabama tickets available and had to reach out to high volume donors to sell them is mind boggling.
