Passing game: Upgrade - JJ is a better passer than Nick Marshall and may be the most talented passer in the SEC in 2015. WR we lose Coates which hurts, but return a possible 1st rounder in Williams and an overall very talented group. They might be less talented without Sammie, but will be more dangerous with a better QB and a more emphasized passing game.

Running game: upgrade - CAP was good and productive but there's no doubt we are replacing him with more talented backs. Jovon, Roc,Peyton Barber, and Kerryon are all potentially elite.

OL: push - I think they can end up better overall as a unit but can't say that for sure. Dismukes is obviously a big loss. 4 year starter, Outland trophy winner. But his replacement is Austin Golson who was freshman All-SEC at Ole Miss as a LT and should be sufficient. Lose Chad Slade who was a huge liability, addition by subtraction. We only return 3 "starters" but all 5 starters next year should have starting experience in the SEC and plenty of playing time. This will be a very deep, experienced unit that should play well together. Also a very talented and athletic bunch made up almost entirely of very highly recruited players.

tl:dr. Overall the offense should be better.

Is JJ expected to be a threat to run in the zone read? I think the offense might look a lot different next year. It will be a good offense but I don't think it will resemble the offense from the '13 championship run.

Offense will be good. But I don't see any way it can be as good as last year. You can't lose that much production and get better. 3 ol, 2 te, your best receiver and the entire backfield, no way!

The defense may be another story, but it will be hard to replace Gabe Wright (Lawson will help here for sure).

No, Chris Todd wasn't a run threat either. The offense will likely look a lot different than '13 and '14.

Yes JJ is a threat to run, but the read option won't be the entire offense like it was with Marshall. Think of his running ability like Cardale Jones. He won't take off on a dime and juke you out like Cam, but once he gets going he has decent speed and will use his size to plow into you. He had good rushing numbers in HS. He isn't a "pocket QB" because he's a statue that can't run. He's a pocket by choice, he's said himself that he just likes to sit back in the pocket and sling it like a QB should, but will take off when things break down.

and sorry, I thought Golson played tackle at Ole Miss but he was a guard. Either way he played very good for them as a true freshman in the SEC.

Marshall was the better runner, but AU got away from that last year. Gus wanted Nick to stay in the pocket and make throws. He could throw it deep, but had problems with the intermediate game and having ball deflected at the LOS. JJ is a much better passer and is tall enough to stay in the pocket. AU loses two OL of any quality, but has built depth there the last two years. AUs best WR last year was Duke Williams, Coates was a deep threat but had iffy hands. The run game will be by committee, unless Robinson breaks out early. I never worry about the running game with Gus.

The Defense will be head and shoulder over last years group.

Ask Foster and Evans if Johnson can run. When did we lose our whole backfield? We lost grant and cap but have jovon roc barber and Johnson our rb will be just fine. We could be very dangerous next year and JJ could be a hell of a qb but I want to see how he handles crunch time in a tight game.

The question for the offense - Can the O-line Pass Block? If the answer is - Yes - then the offense will be better than last years. If the answer is - Not very well - then the offense will struggle.

If I were defenses - I would blitz a lot.

Auburn will have a lot of seasoned veterans on offense. Even the new starters such as JJ, Braden Smith, and Golson have plenty of SEC experience already. Quality depth on the OL may be a problem if we hit the injury bug again.

I think that's probably the best point that has been made in this thread. I want to more about the AU OL's ability to pass block when the QB isn't as much of a threat to run.
