This is the first time, since Tub, that I have thoroughly enjoyed watching our D again. That DL will flat out get after you. LB play has improved tremendously. DB play has improved as well. I am glad we can put this "Gus can't have a good D" shite to bed.

Somehow we can tackle, even in the open field. This is new and exciting!

We haven't had defensive play like this since the Tubbs era.

This. It's awesome.

Haven't seen a solid AU defense in the better part of a decade. The best part is that it looks like the offense has really come around as well. I like our chances from here on out with our power running game and stout defense. It's a great combination to win a lot of ball games.

Honest assessment:

Before the season, I thought he was for the most part a failed hired gun. I thought he had all world talent at LSU which at times played lights out but was inconsistent.

Now, I can't believe that AU's defense is playing at the level they are now. Yes, the defensive front is the most talented front since maybe the 2004 team. But he is getting maximum effort from not only the front but also the linebackers and the secondary. I am pleasantly VERY pleasantly surprised at what he has done.

I, along with many others (AU fans and fans of other schools) have to eat a little crow at this point. That could all fall apart this weekend but as I sit right now, I am pleased.

That's on your position coaches. Steele can dictate areas he wants his position coaches to work on a develop the talent - Steele can evaluate players and their technique - but y'all must have hired some really good position coaches. It's noticeably better in all areas fundamentally. I know y'all are psyched.
