I've seen nothing from the Auburn fans on these boards (aside from the rare sane/realistic individual) that sets them apart from any of the out of touch barners I've encountered elsewhere.

Sounds like projection.. When is the last time UGA beat Bama?

With 21+ million dollars - money AU could have used on much needed stadium upgrades or freezers of meat.

The money was Gus’s regardless of whether we fired him this year, 2021, 2022, or let him coach out the contract.

Gus failed to build a program.
Gus won a few big games.

Now Coach Harsin gets his chance.

Fired a guy too quick? You can’t be serious about that. Second longest active coach in the SEC behind Saban. Most fan have wanted him gone the past three years. I was a Gus supporter and thought he would get one more year ultimately, but this was undoubtedly the right decision. He was an offensive coach who was no longer innovating his offense and not getting it done on that side of the ball in a time where football is moving more toward an offensive game than it ever has. It was time to move on.

As far as recruiting, he was getting the job done there from a pure stars/rating perspective, but he wasn’t recruiting oline and there were too many skill positions we weren’t getting the max out of. This year we were being killed by the inability to have recruits on campus. Whether you want to believe or not, Auburn’s campus really does have a family feel to it and is a big selling point for Auburn.

I personally like the hire, but we will see if Harsin is able to deliver some of the big wins Gus was able to achieve during his time. Auburn is never going to realistically out recruit Alabama, UGA, and LSU. We are consistently the country’s best underdog. Enough blue chip talent to be within the blue chip ratio and have a chance to compete for Championships, but still behind many of our biggest rivals. We can’t beat Alabama at their own game. We need a coach that can recruit to his system, and develop players to compete with the best. This has always been Auburn’s path to success. Harsin recruited in the 60’s at Boise State and usually had a top 40 team per S&P. This is ultimately what we need him to do at Auburn. Develop a team that outperforms their recruiting rankings. Time will tell if it works.

Well, Thai. That top 15 recruiting ranking must sound pretty good right now. I see that AU is 47th in the nation and 12 th in the SEC. looks like Coaches aren’t the only ones who don’t want anything to do with Auburn

COVID year. Gus averaged top 10 classes. He actually recruited better than just about any coach in AU history. (Dye recruited well, but I dunno if even he had consistent top 10's). Chizik had top 10 and even a top 5 class but his tenure was too short to compare.

I think the AD saw the class this year had fallen off a cliff and decided now was the time. I don't blame him, but I do think COVID fricked recruiting big this year. In any case, many wanted Gus gone two years ago, so now is as good as ever.

AU actually has to work for recruits. Bama and UGA just sign them without effort. So not being able to get kids on campus and the fact our bagman wasn't around, fricked us.

The bitterness you read from their fans on these sports sites reflects the stress of living in Bamas and Georgia’s shadow is putting on these people. Guess we should pity them but they are way too obnoxious for that

You haven't done shite in 40 years yet act like you are bama.

True, but we wanted to be more like Uga and get rid of an underachieving coach for another underachieving coach. Harsin may ruin that plan by being more successful but time will tell.

You seem to be a fan of CFB history. Let me drop a date on you:

1981.

That’s right, coming up on 40 years ago. A lot has happened in CFB over those four long decades.

You know what hasn’t happened?

AU losing four in a row to Bama.

Now, we did come close once or twice. But none of those great Tide teams, filled with 5-star talents and coached by some of the winningest HCs in history, ever got through a single senior class without tasting at least one Iron Bowl defeat. (For the record, AU’s 1989, 2005, 2006 and 2007 graduating classes were all undefeated against Bama).

And yet you confidently predict that this four decade long trend will come to an end in 2023.

Well, perhaps you’re right. We’ll see.

Come on. If Kirby totally lost his mind and agreed to take on your pitiful team your school would declare a holiday and hold a parade

Yes, we will have to see. I will tell you though that Gus strikes a lot more fear in me than does this new guy.

I am pretty happy with the change. Besides, let’s say it does turn out to be just 3 out of four. A bunch of 3 out of fours start adding up.

Like you guys canned a perpetual 10 game winner for another guy who can’t get past bama for a ring. Thing about bama, at least they have some reason to be arrogant.
