Marshall was a better deep ball passer, especially as a senior.

For now. Hurts might end up the better passer as he has three and a half years left to develop.

Not sure about Hurts but Nick Marshall never got upset. Dude was cool as the other side of the pillow.

That's Hurts' single most impressive asset thus far.

In two games this season (vs OM and Tennesse) he's been destroyed on a blindside blitz where he fumbled and said turnover immediately led to a score by the opposition. Both were on the road and obviously got the home crowd going.

His response on the ensuing possessions? Against Ole Miss he led a 3 play 50 yard drive for a TD with all but 6 yards coming from his passing or running. Against Tennessee he led a 6 play, 65 yard TD drive with 51 yards coming from his passing or running.

Kid has icewater in his veins.

Sure, and I hope you're right. He's a true freshman. Plenty of room for improvement. But, RIGHT NOW, his passing is poor. And he's a good runner, but not fast like Marshall.

I'm really glad Hurts doesn't play for Gus. I think after 3-4 years, he might end up a better version of Nick Marshall and absolutely kill it in Malzahn's offense.

I think Kiffin is still trying to figure out how to use/coach Hurts. I think it is impressive how Kiffin has adapted the offense to fit Hurts. It's amazing how much zone read Alabama is running all of the sudden. Hat's off to all of the offensive players for adapting really. However, I think the offense can be a bit of a mash up of different things and Hurts may be struggling to be a jack of all trades at times in Kiffin's current system.

It's going to be interesting to see how Hurts develops and how the offense develops the next 3 years. I think I've seen flashes that Hurts might have a higher ceiling to be a more complete QB than Marshall got to.

As far as differences right now. Marshall was as good as I've seen running the read option. His deceptiveness, decision-making and lighting quick first step absolutely froze defenses and created wide open running and throwing lanes. Hurts doesn't have that yet and may never have that particularly since I think Alabama will develop him a little more as not just a zone read guy.

Hurts runs east and west WAY too much. I don't know if he is trying to give a receiver enough time to open up or if he thinks he will be able to outrun the defense. East/West ain't workin'

Hurts has much more talent around him than Marshall did. His receivers are 10x better.

Marshall was nails in close games. Hurts won't see a close game this year.

If Hurts maxes out his potential to the degree that Marshall did, he will be the 1st pick in the draft when he comes out.

Yeah. It isn't like he'd ever find himself trailing 24-3 in his first true road start.

Hurts is bigger and stronger and can break more tackles. Marshall was faster and a better passer. Maybe Hurts's passing game will improve with experience, but if you would put Marshall with the same athletes Hurts is working with at receiver, I think Marshall would put up bigger numbers. I don't remember Marshall playing as a freshman, so I can't compare where he was vs where Hurts is. I am comparing a senior with a freshman at this point.

It's not like Marshall had a bunch of scrubs around him... That 2013 aubunr offense had several future NFLers on it, and one of the most dominate OLs in program history. Robinson, Coates, Prosch, CAP, Luis, uzomah, and Bray are all on active NFL rosters I believe (mason would be if he wasn't crazy)

Hurts is like a new puppy. Clumsy but growing fast. This is what he's like when he barely knows what he's doing. They'll teach him how to hit the deep ball. Notice the training. He under throws the wide open player and misses long on the closely covered one. Not just once but a lot of times. That's the effect of coaching. Don't miss a wide open receiver and don't throw an interception to someone that's covered.

Jalen Hurts and Nick Marshall

We saw Nick Marshall in the SEC as a JR & SR after he'd gotten a year of seasoning playing QB at the Juco level. We are seeing Jalen Hurts thrown to the fire in the SEC as a FR. It'll be interesting to see how Jalen looks as a JR in the SEC. I think his ceiling is higher than Marshall's. Like others have said, Marshall quicker/faster and Hurts higher QB ceiling.

Yeah, the rest of their teammates

Oh and Jalen is probably a better running QB.
