How about Mizzou's DC? Seems to have done a good job.

Don't know much about him. They have excellent pass rushers. It's amazing what that can do for a defense.

Plus he has been working his way up at Mizzou for 13 years. I doubt coming to Auburn interes

ETA: ...ts him that much.

I would be shocked if Muschamp agreed to work for Gus. The Malzhan regime is a slow motion car wreck.

Has even said he'd be interested in a D coordinator's job?

Reports say yes

You mean Sexton says he's interested. The man is a master at getting whatever his client wants. That may very well be DC at AU, but it could also be misinformation to get more money out of someone else. Sexton is damn good at his job.

Would you care to elaborate? Or was this a rhetorical troll?

Wait, I thought Gus' problem was his HS O wouldn't work in the SEC.........especially after SEC DC's had game tape on him. You keep moving the goal post.

You reek of fear.

As you saw Saturday night, Gus doesn't need a great Defense to win big. He doesn't even need a good defense, he needs an average defense. The last two years, Ellis Johnson did not help him one bit. Look at the games last year, and you would see that AU wins the NC with an average D.

UGA comes back from being 20 points down with 12 Min to go in the fourth.
Mizzou- still in the SECCG in the fourth Qrt after AU gains over 600 yards of Offense.
FSU- Drives the entire field with less than 1 min in the game. Completes a 5 yard pass and converts it into a 55 yard gain.

This yeas was even worse. So no, it is not Boom or bust. I think there 50 are DCs in the Country that could still have AU in the Playoff Conversation today.

Do you think there was talent to coach? I saw that as the biggest issue with AU D this year. A little bit of talent made Ted Roof look good. Well, maybe a little.

Yes I believe there is talent. But I also believe with our offense we don't have to be a top 10 defense to win titles. I think Boom would be the biggest splash hire but others could do the job well.

There were 4 and 5 star recruits all over that Defense this year. The biggest problem is scheme. When you have Mincy covering Cooper man on man, you have to question the coaching. Running a 5-2 works against a Power running game, but fails when you play a team that spreads the ball around.

You guys have had some stud D players in the past. Who are those with potential now? Sorry, I just don't know but about to watch some replay. Who should I look for? Thanks.

Does the UF-UA game this year give pause to any Barner about Boom?

That would be like asking if the AU-bama game gives bama fans pause on Saban and Smart.

At this point for me it's Boom or bust. Our defense has been garbage for like 7 years now under three different coordinators.

I don't know how Muschamp would do but I think it would be a huge image and morale boost for the program and would be immediate dividends on the recruiting trail which is exactly what we need. Our defensive recruiting is going pretty poorly right now.

I think there is a solid handful of candidates that would be better than EJ, so not a bust at all.

While Muschamp is #1 on my list, I'm not at all certain he's the best DC of those we're considering, but his record is pretty proven and he's got experience at every level of SEC coaching.

Adams, Daniels, Lawson were all 4 and 5 star recruits.
Tre Williams and Frost were 5 star recruits
Jones is one of the best corners in the SEC.
The rest of the Defense is young, but there is some experience.
