Didn't your defense just lose almost the entire secondary and a first round DE? How exactly will they be better?
We lose 1 corner and 2 backup safeties that were forced into play due to injury. We Josh Holsey back from injury, who is arguably the most talented DB we have. 2 of the starters - Mincy and Whitehead are Sr's with 2 and 3 years of starting time, respectively. Sure Davis will be a big loss, but I think the younger guys we've got are probably more talented than he was.
We'll have Frost and McKinzey as our starting LB's, which is light years better than having Jake Holland on the field. Holland only played because he knew the defense better than any other LB. I have to imagine in year 2, the rest of the LB's will be caught up.
We also get Justin Garrett back from injury at Star. He would have been the starter if not for nagging injuries that kept him out. He and Therezie will make a great 2 deep for that position.
Our DL is very deep. We bring in some solid juco talent that will be able to step in right away and get a 5th year Sr DT back, in Jeff Whitaker. While he hasn't done much in his career, he'll add some good depth and be a big time leader in the locker room. We'll also have 3 of the best DL in the country from the 2013 class coming into their second year - Lawson, Adams and Daniel, to go along with several upper classmen.
You have to remember that last year we were basically forced to move a DE(Eguae) inside to DT and had him playing there due to depth issues at about 275 lbs. We'll be able to rotate at least 6 capable DT's this year. We'll need some DE's to step up outside of Lawson, Daniel and Owens, but we've got some guys that I think can step up well enough.
And with any offense or defense moving into a new scheme, the biggest improvements always happen in year 2.

Nosa and Ford were both really good players on the DL last year.
Losing Davis hurts, but White and Smith are easily replaceable. We recruited well in the secondary and also get Josh Holsey back from injury. I think our secondary will be as good or better.
LB is the wild card spot. They either remain terrible or show improvement. Our personnel should be more talented than last year.

Our schedule is tougher at the end with out two big rivals on the road (first time that has happened).. Still I like us to go anywhere from 8-4 to 12-0 with a concensus of 10-2....
ETA: My estimate is the same if they force us to go to two tightends and the iFormation...

So my 9-3 prediction is not far off from some of your own predictions. Cool.

I'd be happy if TAMU 2014 = Auburn 2013

So you're just summarizing all the arguments that you've made up for auburn fans? Hey, I guess they're right, Senior citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel, can still serve a purpose.

were considered a NC contender heading into 2013

Main thing I see in common between the two teams is they both beat Alabama.

AU played for a NC. Aggies haven't sniffed that instance since Jesus inhabited the earth.
No comparison. AU cheats but they can win some championships eventually. Aggies are perennal pretenders.

quote:First and foremost, this just screams ignorance... Auburn went 12-2 in 2013, why would losing one more game and possibly ending the season 10-3 or 11-3 bring Gus Malzahn and Auburn fans back to Earth?
I'm guessing AU loses 3 in 2014 and the Gus Bus comes back down to earth pretty quickly.
quote:Second off, I now see your intent with the thread.
AU meltdowns this coming season will be epic and their sweet tears will flow on this board like milk and honey in the promised land.
Auburn returns every meaningful starter outside of Tre Mason, Greg Robinson, Chris Davis and Dee Ford. Dee Ford played most of the season hurt and even missed games, yet he is replaceable due to our great defensive line recruiting. Tre Mason and Greg Robinson were virtual unknowns to the SECRant in terms of their top notch ability. Chris Davis was an above average cornerback that was an even better playmaker. And, all in all, Auburn returns the majority of their two deep and added playmakers that can start over previous starters on offense and defense.
If you expect anything other than a superb (10 wins or more) season for Auburn, prepare to be disappointed.

Maybe an SEC West title once every 5-10 years, no SEC titles and no NC's. He will last between 5-7 years. Good, not great coach in the toughest division in football. Meh hire.

False. Our Defense will improve unlike the 2013 A&M defense which fell off a cliff.
Yep. Ellis Johnson on Defense and Malzahn with the HUNH? Auburn's going to be competing at extremely high levels for the foreseeable future.
