Most true Texan folks I know are diehard UT. I know a lot of transplants in Dallas and Houston who like A&M.
UT has the hipsters and the old school Texan kids.
TAMU has better all around folks, but it's not truly Texas.

We were talking to REK one time before a show in Alabama, talking about A&M and stuff because we liked yall before you were in the conference. He obviously still supports A&M in a big way, but he was saying it was depressing how people hardly know who he and Lyle are in College Station anymore, but that they're bigger than ever in Austin.

I get it, you think Texas sucks. We appreciate the side compliment.

The Aggies are all Texans. What self respecting non-Texan would go to a goat rodeo/cult like A&M?
When the SEC became an option for the A&M they kind of fancied themselves like this guy and liked the link to the south. In reality, A&M is in an odd little place in between Central Texas, the piney woods and the coast that creates the perfect environment for the development of the weirdness of its alumni.

U of Texas has lots of real Texans but it's a whole lot more diverse than A&M. Aggies working on that by increasing their student count.I'd say both look arrogant to non-Texans. Both within and without the state, however, the Aggies are a whole lot less fathomable.

I don't get it then.
You say Texas is a top 3 state, yet the people who are more "real" Texan suck more than the group that isn't.
Honestly, I think I get what you are talking about. You go to a Texas game and they wrap themselves in that old cowboy/country image. Their fans go over the top filling their suburban homes with cowhide decorations, rustic wood ranch-style furniture, and fancy boots. Yet few of them can ride a horse worth a damn or mend a fence.
I would say Aggies are more "real" Texans and they are more "show" Texans, like the difference between someone's life and the movie about someone's life.

You think more Aggies could do that than UT folks?

Oh heck yeah. The Aggies I know dream of retiring on ranches after their city years. They all grew up going to ranches/camps, having big bonfires and riding horses. The busses that go around campus play Texas country and not hipster music. We are legit.
You get around a group of Aggie leaders and they are much more likely to talk about owning heads of cattle than some SEC issue. Heck when I had dinner with RC he told me that the hardest pushed advice Jackie ever gave to him was to not put cows on his land.

That's probably pretty fair. I would say the Aggies are a lot more likely to embrace the idea of Texas. The U - Texas types will embrace it when they need to, but also throw out a SXSW/Third coast attitude if they think it fits the situation.
Oh, and Beaty is a bigger "loss".

Not according to his Corpmates. I only know because the professor asked him how his weekend was and he mentioned not well because the Horns got waxed by TCU. I'm not even from here but I had to make sure I heard correctly, I was shocked,
