At what point does the student athlete facade die?

And the realization that college football is for semi pro mercenaries takes over? Will it take a few summers of felony charges on players from each team?
Will it taking knowing that without football half of the team wouldn't sniff an SEC school's classroom?
Will it take more stories like Jerrell Powe or the WR from UGA who admitted he made it to one of the south's finest public universities without being able to read?
I guess what really gets me is the hypocrisy...there isn't a "clean" school in the conference. They all cheat, they all admit thugs and retards. We might as well just be honest about it.

Honestly, I don't think anybody is fooled anymore

What facade? We all know it's happening and so does the ncaa. They just can't always prove it.

This.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.
College football is a semi-pro football league and a feeder system for the NFL.

Read this board. The fact that Alabama or Florida would catch shut for these recent incidents is laughable. It's amazing that more players aren't caught committing crime.

Hate when people bring up easier degrees for student athletes. They are essentially majoring in the sport they are playing in hopes to be professionals. I see nothing wrong with that.

well since college football pretty much started with teams paying players, was there ever a time?

Truth. This doesn't make it right, but it is unfortunately very true

Its up to the NFL to create a minor league. As long as its college football they will be student athletes

You still see the response of players should not get paid because they are getting the free education.

I'm interested to see where college football and basketball are at in 10 years. What's crazy is that the model works for every other sport in my opinion, so it would be a shame if it collapsing somehow harmed intercollegiate athletics in the non revenue sports. I think the fear that acknowledging the system is a farce for football and basketball could end them altogether will keep it going for awhile.

College football also has the concussion aspect + insanely expensive to go to games aspect working against it.

They need to make all athletes qualify with the rest of the students. I also think they should have a minor league so guys that can't get in school can sign a contract straight out of high school like baseball.

Some players still deserve that title
But many do not.

I would like it if the minor league was an option for any player that wanted to do it. They should definitely have the option to go out and get paid.

It's going to reach a boiling point eventually. I'm surprised we aren't there considering even average coaches are making $4million a year.

I agree, I just think the loyalty to big state school athletics from people in power will make it go on much longer than logic would dictate.
I'm surprised more high school bball kids don't go play in Europe. I figured that could have been a game changer for basketball. Either kids really don't want to go overseas for a year or two or the AAU influence runs really deep.

Creating a minor league is also a losing move for the NFL financially which will make it tough

As long as people have collegiate pride, and want their school to win, there will always be the facade.

I wish MSU would start investing in Lacrosse now to prepare for the eventual decline of CFB.
